I read here and there about people removing the balance shafts. Whats the purpose of this.

Reduction in rotating mass and you don't have to worry about the balance shaft belt going and getting jammed up in the timing belt.

It is good for a few horsepower and a little more oil pressure.

Yeah it's a good idea and it's pretty cheap. They say that you can do it with the engine in the car but I don't think it would be easy. I did it when I did my 7-bolt N/A -- 6-bolt turbo conversion before i put the engine in. You wouldn't think you gain any HP but I'm pretty sure they turn twice the speed of the crank (if that's the case then your really removing twice the weight of the shafts in rotating mass). A lot of people say they got more engine vibration after removing them but I didn't notice it any. I did notice quicker reving tho :thumb: . It was worth $30 and an hour of time :D .

What is the process for removal, I assume theres more to it than just pulling it out ad taking the belt off. Is there a blocking plate to cover the hole??

Thanks for the Info and the web site....
