I just got my 1991 eagle talon tsi awd and at first it ran bad because i think it was sitting for a year. Now that it runs better i took it for a test drive and found out that when i floor it it smokes blue out the back. This was the 2nd day after pulling it out and the first run it has had in a while. could this be a bad turbo? the turbo is working fine it looks like it go's right up to about 14psi. Could this smoke just be because it has not been ran for a while? Thanks

yes it has more power than a 14b, but not much on a standard 16g.. You would have to go to a Evo III Big 16g to see a better gain.. But they all bolt up directly to a 1g..

The 16G has more potential. To make use of its capabilities you will need larger injectors, a pump upgrade and rewire, a boost controller and boost gauge, a datalogger, and tuning electronics.

I'd go with 550-650cc injectors, at least a 190lph pump, a MBC, a pocketlogger and an SAFC for a 16G setup.

Not necessarily. The s16G and regular b16G are both definitely upgrades over the 14b.

Although, I would recommend an evo 3.

Yeah me too for sure.. I have the Evo III in my GST right now and love it.. Never ran just a super 16g before.. But you are right about it being a good upgrade over stock though..

you can just put the 16 g without other mods but you will have to run it at low boost, after a minimum of larger injector and fuel pump upgrade and you can turn up the boost a little and get a logger to keep an eye on that!!

Ok so i think i found a ok turbo from a guy on craigslist BUT i dont want to get it here and found out he gave me a bad turbo. so this is where you come in. i know to shake the fan to see if it moves. but if there a way to see if it will leak oil or not r do i just need to trust him?:talon: 91 tsi awd

I just ran into that problem with my 16G. Its 350 to replace the seals at a shop. I only found one good shop to do it.
Holy moses!

I do full rebuilds at my shop for less than HALF of that....I hope that seal replacement came with a jar of Vaseline.

I didnt know there was a difference in an evo 3 16g and big 16g. What is the difference?

-An Evo III 16G has thinner compressor blades and a lighter turbine shaft assembly to reduce rotational mass in an attempt to achieve a quicker spool and higher top RPM than the Big 16G.
-An Evo III 16G's exhaust housing has a 2.5" outlet compared to a Big 16G's 2" outlet.
