Bad temp sensor or not?

If my temp sensor goes bad will it throw a CEL? The temp gauge read fine and the fans cut on. My n/t car is spitting sputtering and jerking but does just fine in WOT. Im running NGK 6 gapped at .30. Wires are fully plugged into coil. I AM NOT getting a CEL but the car does smell a little rich. Any suggestions?

BTW im running a n/t motor, n/t injectors, n/t ecu, turbo MAF, And turbo Wiring harness.

When my temp. sensor went bad it did not turn on the check engine light. But it will make your car run rough, rich, sputter, and cut out. What it does is, it leaves the ecu in open loop, which means it's working in cold operation mode and it just dumps alot of fuel.

Thats exactly what my car is doing. When yours went bad did your temp gauge and fans work?

There are two different temp sensors; 1 for the gauge and one for the ecu, so a working temp gauge means nothing.

The turbo maf is going to read different to a non-turbo ecu. You need a logger so you can see fuel trims and everything else going on.

As for the fans the sensor is in the bottom tank of the radiator.

your fans will still work when the temp sensor goes bad. at least mine did. and no, a bad temp sensor will not throw a CEL.

i think your high, it threw a code at me and that is the quickest way to kill your engine and the fans dont turn on if its bad

my fan still turned on when my coolant temp sensor went out and it threw my cel on. had cold and warm starting issues to boot. fan sensor is separate from CTS. CTS is used by computer. temp gauge sensor is the smaller one beside the CTS...on a 1G at least.

i think it has something to do with you running a turbo maf just like what jrohner said.

Im going to get a MAF from the j yard today that has all the honey comb in it and I will report back. Thanks for yalls advise
