I recently installed gauges and noticed that my a/f ratio gauge doesn't work. Shortly after I also noticed that after long drives my CEL would come on. I've decided to buy a new front o2 sensor, but I don't know where to buy it. What brand and supplier should I buy from. Does anybody know anywhere online to buy an OE fit o2 sensor? All I seem to find on eBay is universal sensors... Thanks.

if i was you you should stick to a OEM sensor... there better than those cheap universal ones. imports are picky cars they like there own.. just go to a mitsu dealer ship they should have one...

a bosch sensor will work just fine. like you said though, you don't want a universal one. i made that mistake and while it works, it was pain to install. most dsm vendors online should be able to get it for you or a local auto part store.

you said you just installed these gauges. are you sure you installed the a/f gauge correctly? and did you check to see what code the CEL is giving? I just don't want you to think its a bad O2 sensor without checking other options first. its an expensive part to just replace and hope it fixes the problem. good luck.

slightly off topic: you are aware that a standard a/f gauge is more just a light show than a tuning device. i fell prey to this also when i first got my dsm. now i'm just using it to be able to check if my O2 sensor stops working. i'm also hoping that if for some reason the engine goes dead lean it will register on the gauge. even though it can't be used for tuning maybe it could save me from a crazy lean condition until i decide to spend the money for a temp gauge or wideband.

^^^^ Yes a Bosh o2 sensor is a direct Mits. OEM replacement. It has the same if not better functionality as a factory sensor.

As far as the A/F gauge concern, a non-wideband is just a generalization of what your car is doing. It can read lean-ricch ratios and you can get a sence of the performance of the vehicle. It doenst help you to tune, but it points you in the right direction as far as telling you if your car is going to pop. :p Good Luck man!:thumb:

haha my a/f gauge stays all the way rich all the time when i'm at full throttle. if it goes below that by more than 2 or 3 bars i'll start to wonder. it has absolutely no way of telling me if i'm rich or spot on. and i'm just hoping it has the ability to tell me if i actually go lean. like you said, that'll hopefully tell me if its going to pop

I'm aware of the a/f gauge not being accurate.. but mine never does anything.... only time that I see any feedback is under high vaccum situations.. like when I let off the gas hard or I'm just coasting.. then it shows a little, but when I have my foot on the gas, especiallay at WOT, it doesn't show anything at all... it is very random. It doesn't jump around like everyone else says it does.. I also forgot to say that the last two tanks of gas gave me very bad mileage and I haven't driven any different or change stations or grade of gas.

ok yeah i'd say it sounds like the O2 sensor with that gas mileage info. you may want to just double check all the connections at the sensor, especially the ones you tapped into for the gauge.

Yeah, I've double checked the connections. All I did was tap the sensor wire of the a/f gauge into the front o2 sensor wire at the ecu... the gauge never worked right. Just bought a o2 sensor off eBay. Found a person who sells the model I need. I just want to make sure of something. The front o2 sensor affects how the engine works, and the back o2 sensor just tells the ecu if the cat is working right? Because I've had my rear o2 sensor haning in free air for a long time because I'm running catless and I've been too lazy to put the simulator on...

That's right - only the front O2 sensor affects driveability, since the ECU uses it to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio. The rear O2 sensor is only used to allow the ECU to monitor the condition of your cat. Note that if you run catless, you may get a CEL due to the rear O2 sensor detecting the cat is missing.

My Autometer A/F gauge is always on RICH - pegged on the last LED everytime Im driving - WOT or no WOT.

Im getting 18-19 mpg on mixed highway/surface street driving so Im not convinced my O2 sensor is defective. But then again, after 6 years, it might need replacing.

Bosch is an OEM replacement? Good tip, I gotta see how much they sell. Gas is expensive so if it can save me 1-2 mpgs, it will be worth the investment in the long run.

Go the the bosch web site to find the model number you need for you car. They have oe and universal ones. Obviously you will get the model number for the oe model. Search the model number on eBay. I found mine for a decent price on eBay for $75 free shipping.

Bosch. I installed mine just make sure you get the housing a little warm. I tried doing it cold, and I yelled a whole bunch of naughty words at my poor helpless car.

When I removed my front O2 sensor it wasn't too bad, spray with some penetrating spray, fit on the o2 socket properly and maybe a breaker bar also. You'll want to remove your driver side A/C fan and lower heat shield for more working room

the lights on the a/f gauge should jump around when cruising. thats the O2 sensor voltage going back and forth to get the optimum fuel mixture

If you want the best O2 sensor for the car, get a direct replacement Denso from http://www.sparkplugs.com since they're direct fit and carry the benefit of being able to handle leaded gas over a long period of time without burning up. I paid something like $70.00 for mine shipped.

Hope that helps,

Andy

The Bosch replacement O2 Sensor part numbers are:

Eclipse GSX

OE Type before Catalyst: PN#13425
OE Type after Catalyst: PN#13428

Eclipse GST

OE Type before Catalyst: PN#13425
OE Type after Catalyst: PN#13417

Looks like the 2nd sensor for the AWD models have a shorter wire, hence the different part number.

Wow, this is so stupid. I ordered the o2 sensor with part number 13399 for my 97' Eagle Talon Tsi Fwd. This is the number that the bosch web site gave me. The connector doesn't fit and the wire is too short... Also, the connector I got has a round connector while the connector it is supposed to hook up to is square...

What shape is the connector for you guys??
Does anyone know if the talon part numbers are the same as the ones above ^^^^??

Well, never got a response so I went along and spliced the o2 sensor that I got and connected it to the existing connector and wires.. looks like it's working fine now... the a/f gauge is cylcing like it should...
