i have a 99 gs eclipse. about a week ago or so i went out to my car and it wouldnt start. it would just click. so i jumped it and drove it for a hour or so and it was fine. but the next morning it wouldnt start again. so i took it to a autozone and they said that my battery and alternator was fine. i took my positive terminal off the battery once started and it just dies. but like i said once started. it has no hesitation while driving. i turn it off and it wont start back up. can anyone help? thanks.

Well it could be your alternator if it dies when you unhook the battery cause thats what happens when you have a bad alternator and its not wanting to charge your battery.

Sounds like an alternator problem to me.

Since the battery is easier to remove than the alternator, pull it out anyways and have it load tested. If it tests OK, pull the alternator to have it checked.

I'm gonna have to agree with Locke here. My Talon had the same symptoms as your car, and it turned out to be the alternator. Either way, if you're going to pull the alternator out and have it checked, I'd say you may as well purchase/put in a new one whether this one is bad or not (if your funds allow it of course). Taking the alternator out was a PITA, for me at least, and it's something I'd like to only have to replace one time. I also agree that you should have your battery tested just to be safe. Cars can do some crazy things if the battery is bad, so having it tested is definitely worth your time.

yeah. i have the same problems that you guys are having. but how much would an alternator usually run me? or would it be worth getting a slightly used one? or should i just spend the money for a new one? thanks

Usually it's the alternator but you can go into a local auto shop and they will charge the battery up and tell you whether it's good or not. Or you can jump start the car and driving it over for it awhile and if it's a back alternator it will died while overly throttle the car to an abusive level.
