Ok I have only had my 1g awd for about a week now, and I was wondering if I have a problem with my t case or something. I got the awd because I heard about how you can launce these things at 5,000rpms and they just shoot forward. Well, I've been kind of carefull by only launching my car at 3 or 4,000rpms. When I drop the clutch, there is some bogging and a clunk coming from the front of the car. I think I may be dropping the clutch to fast and need to be more steady...but I should be able to launch these things pretty hard right? Please tell me if this "clunk" is just me letting off the clutch too fast or if it's a real problem I need to worry about.
Also, the car's clutch has 35k miles if that helps...it's not slipping. When I am already accelerating from a roll, it grips great and takes off fast. However, I sold my Fwd and got this Awd because I like the faster launch. Please help.

I dont think it is th TCASE. Cause even with the tcase the car would pull with the front wheels when you pressed the gas. I bet you tosted that 2100.
well........
yeah every gear works i drove home. but are there other friction surfaces besides the clutch? like anythinn else that could slip? i am very puzled as to what could be going on!
which leads to.....
sounds like a broken rear axle to me.

the reason it feels like a slipping clutch is the viscous coupling that connects the front half to the rear half. when they spin a different speed it locks together so whats happening is you floor it and the broken part spins real fast because theres no resistance. then the viscous starts to lock it all together and then it feels normalish again.

But I still say tcase not rear axle.:thumb:

I probably would have taken the cover off the diff before I pulled the whole thing. You might be doing all of that work for nothing.

i got it all figured out! got my rear diff out and i didnt even break any bolts! A local place used to race talons and they have a bunch of parts lying around. They sold me a used rear diff for only 100 bucks. Bolted everything up and it runs like a champ. :thumb:

Ok, so last night i go to do a 2step launch (5500rpm). I build boost and let the clutch out not to hard but not to soft, just like i always have done.
But this time nothing happened, the car dident move. There was no bang, pop or other abnormal sound. I just let the clutch out and it jerked forward a bit, thats all.
Go to put it in gear and now the clutch is slipping really bad. I cant even build any boost. There's no abnormal sounds except for a little wine when it slips really bad. Its the same through all gears.
The clutch is a act2600 less then a year old and hasent seen that much abuse. Its never slipped before and i did a launch earlier that day with no problems.

Any suggestions?

I should also add that the speedo increases with rpm when it slips.

Pull the tranny.

Check your clutch at the same time; you may have done damage to the pressure plate (or disk).

My guess is a damaged front differential upon initial assessment.

Differential in the transmission went out. I have had it happen before. The reason the car won't move is because the power always goes to the path of least resistance and since there is no resistance on the front axles, it is all going there. Are you leaking any fluid? When mine went last time it broke my case in 4 spots. Probably stripped the spider gears in the differential.

which is exactly why your speedo is going up. Also it can be as easy as your axle breaking......for example. the drivers side axle... There is a brace with 2 bolts that hold the brace to the block.....if you happen to snap those bolts * as i did * when you start to move the spinning of the axle pushes the axle outta the tranny, thus creating slip and just like previously mentioned before, the power goes to the path of least resistance.

check that out as well.

Thanx for all the replies everyone.

Ill be pulling the trans this weekend.
Roughly what does it cost and what kind of work is involved in fixing something like this?
I can pull the trans my self no problem.

It depends on how damaged everything is. It rarely happens that you only blow the front diff. If it is the center diff that you blew, well, then it becomes even more fun.

Either way, the front diff and the center diff are NOT cheap parts. I hope for your sake you have money saved up.

Yo i had that same problem and my clutch was shot.
i just bought an act 2600 and i had it in for almost 2 months.
i really barely ever beat it and only did a couple launches. If you can't even build 3 pounds then your disk is fried... trust me. my disk had no and i mean NO disk left.
the pressure plate i think was fine yet. I pulled the old one and got a Centerforce Dual friction. OMG it is hands down the best clutch i have ever used. I can spin all four tires and get a pretty damn good peice of second for being AWD! and it is just as strong as the day i got it!

but your speedo thing... im not sure, i just saw you might have a clutch problem and figured i would tell you to get centerforce.
