So I have been on the hunt for a 1G AWD gas tank and haven't had any luck, the one that I found the guy didn't want to ship to me and was out of range for me to go pick up. I did find this thing called Gas tank renew, where you send them your tank and they blast it, fix the wholes, and coat it inside an out. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this and if it is worth doing.

I would just find the cheapest welder to do it or go to a salvage yard and clean up an old one, depending on how much this Gas Tank Renew company charges. Remember to buy a new filler neck hose as well while you're at it. You could also use JB weld for a QUICK FIX MEANING IT WILL NOT LAST, so you can at least drive it some.

If its a Mi car most likely its the return on or sending fuel line has a rusted pin hole at the top of the tank. Very common in our state, pop the cover off to the tank in the truck with car idling, or when ever you smell it (full tank or in a turn) and look for wetness. 2 Phillips head screws, black access cover.

Extend the range you are willing to drive for it, or try the coating. I'm not sure you can easily get a tank full of gasoline fumes shipped anywhere, and finding one of those tanks is going to be like finding a microscopic needle in a haystack. I have heard of some of those coatings coming off in the tank and wreaking havok, so if you can find a clean one, you may really want to go that route.

I have gotten away with fixing the tank on a 84 CRX that had a pin hole leak in the tank with a self tapping screw with a rubber washer on it. As a precaution, I sprayed around the screw with undercoting after I knew it stopped the leak. Lasted from 96 till I got rid of it in 2000.

I took a gas tank on a different make car to a Gas Tank Renew place and had good luck. Never leaked again and had a lifetime warranty. This was nearly 25 years ago however and I sold the car 8 years later. I would say go for it but I'd just bring the tank to them with the covers but without the insides (fp and fuel level sensor) unless they say to. Then put new gasket on the top fp covers and new mounting straps (your old ones will probably break off anyway due to rust).
