So I got this card in the mail about the extended warranty. (Just bought my car a few weeks ago, have 92500 miles)

The warranty is 3yr, 36K miles.

Covers: engine, trans, drive axle, brakes, suspension, electrical, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I asked the guy to send me the coverage via email/fax and he said "give us a deposit and we will send you the info in the mail, you have 30 days to deny the warranty for refund"

I told him that sounded shady and hung up :D

Wanted to ask my fellow DSM experts for some advice first....

Don't walk, RUN!!!

If anyone is asking you for money before they are willing to give you any information to base a decision on, tell them to f@@k off!

Does the Mitsu dealership offer those extended warranties? I thought I heard once that when you buy those warranties, they are actually just being re-sold for the dealership...

They usually only do that if there is some of the original warranty period left. Once your car hits 100,000 I believe no legitimate company will warranty your car. There not dumb enough to think that cars don't start having problems with that high of mileage. Stay far away from any of these offers. Besides, you should learn to fix your DSM yourself because you will be in the repair shop spending a lot more money than you would have doing it yourself.

Never get one of those extended warranties offered by an outside company. It is only worth it if it is a factory extended warranty.Especially Penn warranty company.Anyone who works in a private shop will tell you how much they suck.We had a Jeep here with a cracked head and they sent 2 seperate unusable heads from a wrecking yard(all were also cracked). They then proceeded to tell the owner of the vehicle it was our fault for mishandling the cores. He ended up buying a new head himself and has yet to be reimbursed.

Hmm only reason I wanted to do it was because my a/c compressor went out, along with the passenger side power window motor :)

There are some aftermarket warrantys available for you to purchase that are good. If I were you I would call around to the dealers in your area and ask the service managers which ones are best to deal with. Just like anything else, you get what you pay for.

When I bought my car, I received a plan from DaimlerChrysler Called "Power train Care Plus" ... $500

So far, I've got new lifters and labor out of it, 100 dollars
+ I talked them into putting the 3g lifters in the car :)

Hopefully, something serious will break so I can get my 600 dollars out of it.

I think you just have to watch who you buy it from. I haven't had any problems with the service company honoring my contract.

Screw the extended, aftermarket warrantys. If you actually got something good out of the deal, they wouldnt have them. The warranties make the company money, and rarely save you anything. Think about what they actually cover, they are not going to cover crankwalk or any other bs like that. If you spent the 500 or 600 dollars for these warranties on maintnence items you wouldnt even have to worry about it.

The same people sent me that crap 4 months ago. I would not pay a deposit or xx amount a month for something they dont cover + you need a deposit for them to send info sounds like a SCAM! I will just save that xx amount for later. If something does break i will use that deposit or xxx$ to fix it myself. Just someone trying to scam.

stratt134: I wouldn`t take that offer, it screams bad idea. I would contact the dealer(if you bought it from a dealer) in which you bought the car about a warrenty. Or you might be able purchase one from a dealer that you didn't buy the car off of, you'll probably get a jacked up price for it either way. Mine had a 3mo. window for me to pruchase it.

Also, do you plan on modifying your car, because alot of warrenty companies will blame broken items on modifications.

Last I understood, there was a design flaw in the 1st and 2nd gen lifters, in the 3 gen lifters, the flaw was fixed. Sometimes it's hard to tell what your getting into when you purchase a car, my had 35k on it when I bought it. I was definitely skeptical as to the legitimisy(SP) of the cars mileage.

Also, if the engine is going to walk, it's going to walk. From what I've learned, preventative maintenance will make little difference, if any.

In my case, I wasn't trying to go the "cheapest" route towards owning my car. And you do get something out of the warranties, even if you don't exhaust the entire cash value of the warranties.

This car being a daily driver, I can't afford for it to live up to the DSM legend. So, when things break, its one hundred dollars for it to get fixed. I don't have to spend the time to learn how to do something, or waiting for someone that does know how.

But, I wish I did have the time. Someday, she'll be a weekend warrior

Just commenting on crankwalk...

I wasnt saying that preventative maintnence would stop it, I was stating that they would not pay for it period. Putting the money into other maintnence would stop other bs from happening.

More than half of the companies will not cover you if your parts aren't OEM. I had first hand experience with one of these and I cancelled it after I found out I couldn't mod anymore.

to fix the a/c alone was quoted $900.... i sure hope the dealership doesn't inspect the car before they warranty it, LOL!
