Hi,
Okay, here's the deal....
I took my car to a transmission shop and they said the clutch I gave them is bad. I used an OEM tob and not the one that came with the kit. Will the warranty still be valid in this situation?(if they find it faulty/bad that is). This is just an OE stock clutch replacement clutch for a 97 gsx btw.

Also, will the TOB still be okay to use or do I need to buy a new one? Not even sure if the transmission place know what they are doing so it's stressing me out. I went there today and the clutch pedal is super hard/stiff and short, only catching on the very bottom. I told them it's not suppose to be like that and they said it's ok etc....I didn't take the car with me instead I just left it and told them they needed to look at it more(told them to bleed lines again and check clutch adjustment but they were asses about it). They called me after 30 mins and said the clutch I gave them was bad. ????

It kind of sounds like this shop isn't real familiar with these cars. These cars are probably one of the pickiest when it comes to clutches and clutch components. Did they verify that the flywheel step was correct, and did they use a new fork and pivot ball? If they didn't use new fork and pivot ball did they shim the pivot ball? It seems that these parts wear faster on these cars than most others which will throw the clutch geometry out of spec and lead to engagement problems. I also assume that they have no idea how to properly adjust the master cylinder rod.

This is why you do shit yourself. And now none of us are going to be able to pin point where the problem is. It could be an adjustment problem all the way to slave, master...flywheel step, pivot ball etc. You need to search on a clutch install and go and see where they screwed up. In other words we need more details.

I'm a college student living 3hrs. from home at an APARTMENT complex. There is no way I can change my clutch without getting a fine. I know it's hard and I was hoping things went well today when I went to go see it....

I bought a new fork, pivot ball and the OEM TOB from Jackstransmissions. I have no idea about the steps but I specifically told them a 1997 GSX. I was really going to bring it home and do the proper rod adjustment myself, but since I'm paying so much already I felt that they should have done a better job and it's not my part to mess with anything or bring it home in case they blame it on me about damages. Do anyone know what I can actually do if EXEDY says the clutch kit was NOT defected in any way? Would I be able to do anything with the transmission shop on this issue? :toobad:

Was this a brand new clutch that they put in? I would be willing to bet that the clutch is perfectly fine and they just either don't have the correct step on the flywheel, or the master rod adjusted wrong. It sounds like you are in kind of a pickle at this point. Most shops won't admit that they could be wrong, and will instead try to find any thing else to blame it on. I would go up there and show them the jacks transmission video on the proper way to adjust the master. They could get pissed at you for questioning them, or they could realize that they don't properly know how to do it. As far as the warranty thing, if they won't listen to you about the master adjustment and insist that you send the clutch in and it is fine than you might have to get a lawyer involved at this point, or just find a place where you can work on it yourself.

I know...I'm really stressed out about the situation too cause they won't listen and just kept saying the car runs great and kept trying to get me to drive it home. I'm sure more than likely the clutch was perfectly fine. Its brand new so the chances of it being defected is low. After I left they said the clutch is broken and making excuses that they're not sure if the clutch I gave them was rebuild etc. I'm hoping they won't come up with other ideas to make it my fault, but I guess at this point I really can't do too much about it. I'll just send back the clutch to exedy and go from there

I wouldn't even send it back to them. Even if send it back and they say it is fine the shop is going to deny and try to fight it. I would tell them that you are paying them money and they need to properly adjust the master. What are they charging you to do this, and are they just installing a clutch, or doing work to the transmission also?

I was thinking about it and all I'm going to say is that if they FEEL the clutch is defected, then I can send it to get it checked out. I'll show them the receipt for the new clutch and if they still want to fight it by saying it's not new and that being the reason why it broke then it's up to them. If not then I will have to ask them to replace it for me since they broke it.(If it really is, that's just what they said on the phone after I left). The only thing I needed was the clutch and I bought new master and slave cylinder as well because before the clutch would bearly disengage making it almost impossible to shift gears. When off I can shift, but when on I couldn't. Tranny is fine. They charged me $636 including tax.

I know its a lot but that's about all of the places around this city charges...
