Anyone have a write up or tech article on how to install an autometer water temp guage? ive searched this forum and i cant find anything on aftermarket water temp guage installs. Please help, my 3 guage pod looks stupid with only 2 guages.......thanks :dsm:

Step 1:

Run the wiring throught the gauge pod and into the pillar.

Once you've run your sender wire throught the firewall route it to the sender. I beleive the stock sender is on the water neck somewhere.

Remove stock sender, install new sender.

Connect your power and ground for the light in the gauge and connect sender wire to sender.

That's all there is to it!

Not to dig this up, but I figured why start a new thread....My autometer has two more spaces for wires, that say to ignition power? What is this for, I think my EGT has the same things...Anyone know where those get run to?

I was installing my autometer water temp guage and it leaks. The piece that came on it threaded right in and got tight but the probe still moved and leaked. How do you install it so it wont leak?

You'll want to buy the proper adapter for metric threads. Autometer (and most) gauge senders use npt threading unless specified otherwise. If I recall correctly the autometer electrics use a 1/8" npt. and off hand I don't remember the sizing for the stock sender.

I have a 1G swap, however, i'm sure the procdure is the same. Ok, you'll need to have an ignition power source.... i used the cigarette lighter power.... you can use whatever you want. This power wire turns the gauge on so it works. Of course, don't forget to run that ground wire somewhere..... to and adequate ground source. You'll also need another power source for the bulb.. more than likely, you'll want the gauge to be lit up when your parking lights are on, so just find that wire and tap into it. Again, ground that wire off of somewhere.... you can use the same grounding spot that you used for the other grounding wire. As far as the sender goes.... there was a plug in the front of the thermostat housing..... i took it out, and the sender adapter threaded right in. I used loc tite on all threads so the engine vibration doesn't vibrate the sender or adapter loose. Then, of course, run your wire from the sender to the back of the gauge. Hope i wasn't too tedious in explaining this. Hope it helps, let me know how it goes.
