Well I have all of these extra parts and was wondering what would be the best setup for my 1G. I know the VPC/GCC flows a hell of a lot more air due to the speed density conversion. On the downside my friend told me that I would have to change the settings a lot due to the environment outside. I live in Oregon and the weather changes drastically everyday (rain sucks). The reason for the subject title "SAFC2 Vs. VPC/GCC" is the VPC has the chip for the injectors and the settings are already dialed in for 550cc injectors. When I bought the car the guy had the VPC/GCC in there but took it out for some strange reason to sell the car...

With SAFC2, I had it in my 420A until I changed the EMS setup. So It is sitting around with the 625cc injectors. I like the simplicity of the SAFC2, but I didn't really use that much because my 420A breaks every other week. So, what I'm asking here is which one would be the best for my daily driver?? Thanks for the help.

It's only been a day.

So what are you asking? If the VPC/GCC setup is better than an SAFC? I think it's obvious.

The VPC is speed density based, so atmospheric changes can affect it to some degree. But unless you're driving from L.A. to Denver, you probably won't see that dramatic of an altitude change to affect performance.

What are your power goals? A hacked 2G MAS has gone 400+whp easy. The MAF-T has gone 500+whp (from last I've seen).

If you only have the SAFC2 run that. I'd also get my hands on a used 2g MAF and plug and wire that in. If you already have the VPC/GCC run that instead. The VPC already has a temperature sensor and pressure transducer that already compensates for altitude variations. I'm running my VPC in 38*F weather and have minimal problems with driveability.

If you want a setup you never have to upgrade again and runs like stock then just hold out a few months until DSMLINK comes out with their 1g version. This way you can datalog, adjust fuel, lauch control, rev limit, ignition timing, etc all in one unit.

one of my guys ran the VPC and along w/ the GCC on a 1G 20G turboed GSX....it was fine. this took place in the chicago area. the environment didn't affect it to my knowledge. he then switched over to the AFC II because of smog issues. for some reason the VPC/GCC just didn't pass smog (exhaust) tests in chicago. otherwise performance was basically the same....he told me he like the VPC/GCC better since it's simple. people's opinions will vary usaully according to what they have. right now i happen to have an extra VPC and GCC for a DSM sittin around.....comes w/ harness and all except that u will need the PROM for ur injectors and the little glass filter. the PROM u can get from Buschur Racing for around $50. the filter i'm sure u can get from HKS b/c i think they still make it w/ their electronic boost controllers. if u got some more questions, give me a call on my cell or leave a message. 608-212-2823. i'm not on dsmtuners as much anymore.

^^^^^^^^ run the vpc with the afc. then you can compensate for the bigger injectors with the 550 chip with the afc.

Just to add something about the VPC, what about replacement parts availability? I was going to pick up a VPC head unit alone for dirt cheap a few months ago and I called HKS for a harness for a 1G and they said they were discontinued. I also talked to tuning shop and they said what HKS has in stock as far as replacement parts for the VPC is whats left. No new sensors are being made. Can anyone add to the validity of this?

I hope that is not the case!! I had one last question, do you think it is necessary to use the VPC and the GCC with SAFC??? Why not just use the VPC and GCC together.... I have both of them?

By the way, thanks for all of your guys inputs and suggestions. :thumb:

just use the vpc+gcc, or vpc+afc.

afc is better then the gcc becuase its got more functions and points/range of adjustability.
