Algonquin,
is it possibe that my 500watt amp damaged my alternator.

i got it test at autozone yesterday and it have out 14.1volts and 0.9amps.. which hes is low and should be around 60amp.

he said that my amp must've messed it up cause its makeing it work constantly becuse the amp is drawing all that power.

is this true?

My guess is he read his meter wrong or had it on the wrong scale - But yes a 500W Amp can kill an Alt (actually it seems to take out the Voltage regulator which is integral to the Amp in most cars these days) - Get a 1 Farad Cap & ROCK-OUT.

Also make sure you have no Power Steering Fluid leaks on your Alt - that will kill it in a Hearbeat & can toast your ECU...

Just had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G - Mine was about $150.00 - I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery.

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - P/N 21491

I put it on ramps & come from underneath - It's a PITA .

Most all 1g's I have seen generally kill alternators quite frequently. Like the guy above me stated many 1g's have leaky p/s pumps which kill the alternators. Also, the alternator is close to the downpipe, so I believe that heat helps to kill our alternators. I have also heard that having your alternator belt on too tight kills these alternators.

I work at Autozone and if your alternator is bad it will say "No output, check alt. wire." If the alternator is good it will say "Diode patter good." Do you remember what your car said? The harder your alternator has to work to power things, such as amps, the more wear and tear you put on your altnernator. I know you can also put a GVR4 alternator in your car, but they are a special order and really expensive from Autozone.

Also, it has been my observation that a few of your lights in your instrument cluster will come on right before your car dies from a bad alternator.
