am i running TOO MUCH TIMING UNDER BOOST???

i recently got my car finished and am still in the tuning process... i am currently running about 20-25 psi, and off boost the timing is at around 30 degrees and under boost i am around 22-26, dependant on knock.... what is the ideal amount of timing....my mechanic says that around 19 under boost should make more power and cause less knock, and i can't seem to get less than 12 counts under boost...???? please confirm that too much timing could cause knock also....

Not exactly a newbie question, but that could definetly happen. Generally, too much spark advance under heavy load will cause knock. The ideal amount of timing varies for every car, you need to get it to a dyno to figure that out for sure.

Well I guess timing of 23 deg or so would be alright if you had no knock. Generally you want to tune for no knock, I think 1g's look for 17 or 18 deg? Yes too much timing can cause knock & so can too much boost. Unless 1g's are different then 2g's I would say your knock is way too high, reduce your timing or boost or both until you get it under control & tuned better.
