Im bored, so I thought Id post a copy of my progression post off of a local forum.

I finally decided to get off my butt and make some progress on the Talon. Parts are gonna be here next week and the car is far from being ready for them. But, I got my gauges mounted, finished installing the black dash and console, mounted my front mount and routed what intercooler piping I can without the engine in the car. I also put in the Walbro pump and rewired it. Tons of work left to do, but Im slowly making progress!

I cleaned, scuffed, and painted the engine bay and intercooler yesterday. I am going to paint the outside as soon as I can decide on a color. I figured Id just do the engine bay in black. Im pretty stoked though. This is the first time I painted anything the right way and not rattle cans!

More progress today...

Tightened intake and exhaust manifold bolts, mounted turbo, ran the oil feed and return lines as well as filter/restrictor, and coolant lines, torqued ARP head studs, put in the JUN cams, new timing belt...I now have a complete long block!

Dual valve springs... Ignore the crap in the head. It was all cleaned before final assembly

I also bolted on the flywheel and clutch followed by the transmission(after I gave it a bath). First thing in the AM Im gonna drop it all in.

Oh, and solid motor mounts welded up and ready to go.

More progress!

Well, all the work I did yesterday was cancelled out by the fact that I forgot to put in the 2g motor mount on the drivers side. So I had to take off the timing belt cover, belt, tensioner, and mount bracket. Then I had to notch out my bracket to fit over the water pump. Finally I had to re-install everything and time it all again.

THEN...I realized the engine didnt have a power steering pump bracket. So I had to take off the freakin water pipe and install the bracket.

But I got it all buttoned back up and it was time to drop it in. I managed to get it in without a single scratch on my freshly painted engine bay! Now I need to finish up my intercooler piping and finish wrapping everything else up. Still a ton of work to do, but Im close!

I have installed my 90 oil filter housing and put in the fittings I need for my oil cooler. I pulled the turbo back off and put in the freshly painted water pipe, ran my coolant lines for the turbo, then put the turbo and heat shield back on.

I also changed the lower control arm on the passenger side because I had a bad ball joint. So I took one off the parts car, cleaned/painted it, and put it on. I also painted all the suspension stuff on both sides. I put on my stainless brake lines, and the AEM rotors needed a little attention before they would go on. Still need to undercoat but that will wait until later.

IMG00216.jpg

I then moved my attention to the radiator and fans. I have some mishimoto fans and shroud. This shroud is supposed to be DSM universal. Well, it didnt fit either a 1g or 2g radiator. I had to bend the tabs to fit on top, and on bottom I had to make a bracket to fit. I just used a piece of scrap sheet metal I had laying around and cut it to fit. I drilled some holes, cleaned it up, and painted it. The fans and radiator are now in the car. I also put in the headlights, put on all the accessories and belts, wired up the alternator and hooked up the power steering pump hoses. I started to figure out my wiring but decided to call it a day.

IMG00218.jpg

Now all I need to do is put on the exhaust, plumb my external oil cooler, run all the wiring under the hood, finish my intercooler piping, wire all my gauges, socket my ECU, make brackets for my seats, and fill/bleed all the fluids.

BTW- that blue piece of plastic on the windshield is the color I decided to paint the car. My phone doesnt capture the true awesomeness of it though!

Yeah, I hope to have most of it buttoned up this week. Here are a few more pics since I took it off the jackstands!

9/22 update!

Few more pics. Since the last update, I have done way too much to list. Im chasing down some electrical issues right now but HOPE to fire her up very shortly!

Coils mounted

Finished up IC pipes and made block off plate for the BOV recirculation.

Cut off recirculation tube from my FP intake pipe and welded the hole shut. That allowed me to clock the intake assembly enough to run the pipe upside down, placing the intake into the opening in the front bumper. I also lengthened the MAS harness to reach.

Aww man. I would have traded my FP non-recirc pipe for yours :(

I had it posted up for a few weeks. I finally had to get it going. Wish I would have known though!

Nice work, man! Looks great.

What did you do with the coolant lines to/from the throttle body? Mine are looped now, but because of the cold months here, I want to put themn back, but I haven't been able to determine exactly where the lines go to/from.

Thanks man! Im pretty sure they are 18x8 but I would have to look again. I just got some 245/45s for them.

Well today finished up the wiring on my battery relocation. I mounted the breaker right by the battery and grounded right behind the plastic trim panel behind the battery. I used the heat gun on that back side of the panel to soften it a bit in the corner where there was a clearance issue, and i pushed the battery into it. Fits like a glove now! I still need to make battery hold down brackets.

I ran my 1/0 gauge wire up the passenger side. and into the grommet going into the engine bay. But I got in a hurry and as I was cutting through the grommet I cut into some of the wiring. Kids, dont do this at home...DOH!

So after spending 15 minutes fixing a stupid mistake I moved on. I ran the wire into the engine bay, around my catch can, and into my fuse block with a fancy schmancy blue digital display. From there, I brought it out and down to my distribution block mounted directly below the fuse block. I need to make a mounting plate for the fuse block and wire everything to it.

Mounting plate is made. I just cut it out of a piece of galvanized angle I had laying around. I cut the shape and bent it to fit, then drilled holes for the fuse block to bolt to. After smoothing the edges and scuffing it up, I wiped it down and painted it. Ill put it on tomorrow. Its late.

Here are a few new pics. Nothing new. I have spent the last week trying to figure out why I couldnt get my DSMLink to connect. I was almost ready to burn the bi*** down. But tonight I GOT IT! Now I get to start getting a decent tune on it, and start playing! I have to lengthen the coolant temp harness and come up with a coolant overflow. I also need to take the transfer case back off and get the recall work done on it. I am gonna hang the bodywork as is for now. When it snows, it will go under the knife for some smoothing and fresh paint! Dont mind Stevens goofy ass! My right hand man was excited to see it move under its own power!

Ok I got it to idle better and actually took it for a spin. I need to set the BISS still and the idle made it tough to time it. It is close, but Ill get it better.

I got my UEGO installed but am having a hard time getting it to simulate the front o2. Here is the first log. I ended up having an injector plug loose. I hope you guys can open it. Im not sure how to attach logs here.

Here is the trip back to the garage. I really need to get the o2 situation worked out. This thing is running REALLY rich. But it pulls harder now at 15 lbs than it used to at 25. Once I can lean it out and throw some boost at it, LOOK OUT!
