Well first off I'm Andrew. Sort of a newbie to DSM. I'm trading my 93 prelude si for a 98 gst this weekend. I already have some plans for the car, I just wanted to see of everybody thinks this will be fine. The car has 155k, so I will probably be rebuilding the bottom end, not sure if I'm going to stock rebuild or not, depends what you guys have to say. Okay so here are my plans. The goal is 400-500 hp. I will be using it as a daily driver...for now. I was thinking either the hx35 or gt35r (depending if I can get it for a good price with no play.) Punishment Racing fmic, hks ssq bov, punishment racing o2 housing, and 38 MM tial wastegate. For the fuel system...880cc precision injectors, walbro 255, aeromotive high flow fuel rail and AFPR. Magnus SMIC, hk2 272/272 cams, and hks cam gears, brian crower spring and retainer kit. Transmission wise I'm not sure what to do, if you could help with that, that would be great. Does this setup sound okay for the power goal I want?

well before you make ## dream car think this isnt a honda where u can get aftermarket parts for real cheap this stuff is expensive, and also think about this, your car is front wheel drive, 400+ is gonna be a pain to get traction out of, my friends gst was tuned at turbotrix in edison nj made 390 to the wheels on 18lbs pump gas, even on the dyno with a guy standing on the rad support the car was spinning for some reason..alot to think about but then again if u have the money an motivation..mostly the money LOL nothing can stop you so good luck!!

plus what he said!!! ^^^

Honestly, Sounds like overkill in some areas, and not sufficient in others... I noticed a lack of tuning capability. ECMlink V3 can be had for <$600 if you shop around, or you may have a flashable ECU in your 98. I also noticed a lack of engine management. Plans for boost gauge, wideband O2? Save the cash from the SMIM, you don't need it for your power goals. Also, based on the reviews I have read, I personally would not run ANYTHING brian crower in my car. Also, for the Injectors, I would go ahead and get 1000cc+ sized injectors. Might as well buy once and leave room to grow right? Also, first and foremost, your most important "mod".. MAINTENANCE! Goodness only knows how that car has been treated before you. Make sure yourself, that the water pump, oil pump, timing belt, charging system are all up to snuff, hell change them all BEFORE you start adding power adders. Also make sure to do a boost leak test, ensure there are none. Also do a compression and leak-down test before you assume you HAVE to rebuild the bottom end. You MIGHT get LUCKY and have a healthy, properly maintained DSM, but chances are against it.
Good luck, and welcome to the family!

very very valid point, your car is nothing but an expensive piece of eye candy if any of those things he mentioned craps out after u put all that into it..

i planned on using ecmlink and also plans on changing all fluids, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, plugs and wires as soon as I get the car. Im no newbie, I know these parts cost money, I dont plan to buy all of them brand new, craigslist is my friend ;) Also I will definitely be doing suspension mods as well to help with traction.

Also I was saying I know I will need to rebuild the bottom end, Just wondering if a stock rebuild could handle the power.

I wanted to boost the lude, but there it costs alot to properly boost and h series because of the aluminum sleeves. Unless you get the mahle gold series pistons, which I've heard mixed reviews about. I thought I would just find a dsm, seeing as I am more of a mitsu guy than honda. imo they're alot more fun to work on too

Welcome to DSMtuners.
Nice looking car. If your goal is 400-500 HP I would not recommend just going "stock" on your bottom end rebuild. From what I've read over the years a stock engine is good for 350-400 HP. Best wishes :thumb:

haha i did the f series bottom with iron sleeves with a h series head nd turbo'd nd put it in a crx nd let me tell u traction is not a thing with that car LOL i traded it for my laser rs actually because i started on dsms way back LOL

Just about any forged set of rods and pistons will do you well for your goal. Dont forget to have the block machined if need be, and have crank checked out. Were you planning on rebuilding the engine with the motor still in chassis or taking it out? I've rebuilt mine while engine was in car and it was a PITA! I am no expert, but i know just about enough to get into trouble. Remember pick up your factory service manual, a chiltons, a haynes, and stay active on the forums. Between those sources you can learn just about ANYTHING you need or want to know about these vehicles!
