So I am going to get a local shop to make me a 2.5 in exhaust and Im going to just weld up a muffler I had laying around from an older car. My question is this.... How can I remove everything thats inside the canister? I had a 240sx before this car and was abler to pull out the guts of the muffler and all the fiberglass or whatever is hidden inside the canister. here is what i want to remove...

Yup. Cut it, gut it, weld it.

You know that fiberglass is the stuff that does the muffling right? With it removed it is just a resonator. You can get a resonator for cheap, and it will help reduce the sound. I prefer having a cat and a resonator to having any kind of a muffler. You can get resonators at a muffler shop.

Im trying to get alost the same sound from my gsx that I had with my 240sx. straight pipe from header back to the muffler and the muffler was empty. Gave the 240 a real mean tone. Obviously I cant delet the cat since im a 98 but I figured I'd get the 2 resonators removed and gut this. Im going to get it put on like it is first to get a good sound opinion. I know that being boosted will get different rusults than I had with an N/A 240sx. I was hoping though. I was even considering leaving 1 resonator and straight piping the rest. Iv youtubed both and they both sound different so Im clueless at this point
