I am looking to put an aftermarket air intake system on my 1996 Eclipse GS-T Spyder. I happened to read somewhere that you cannot put a cold air intake on a turboed DSM, though. So, my question is, what can I put on my car?

Thank you

For a real "cold" intake, you need a pipe (or hose) to exit the engine bay. For example the area where our smic is, that would be ideal. Now, if you buy an intake and its in back of the headlight, its not a true cold air intake. Hope this clears things up a bit =)

Unless you can relocate your stock maf sensor somewhere cooler and fabricate a pipe there isn't really much you can do. People usually just replace the oem rubber tube with bigger aftermarket aluminum tube but i doubt there is any benefits except to look cool. You can find these aftermarket aluminum maf tubes on ebay pretty decent price. Here is one...

It definitely helps, but the question I am asking is whether or not a cold air intake can be placed on a turboed engine without any complications.

Yeah no doupt it can be placed but not without complications. There isn't a kit out there you can bolt on. you got to fabricate your own pipes and figure out where it needs to go. and then you got to extend your maf harness to where ever you are going to place the maf (it isn't long enough). will all the effort be worth it? its all depend on you. another option is that you can also isolate your maf away from the heat source to keep the maf/air inlet cool.

This will give you an idea how you can isolate your intake away form heat source
