I have a 1st gen. 1.8L engine. I am currently doing as many mods as I can with the money I get, but pretty soon, the mods will be no good. So my thought was of some options to increase the power output.
My first question is if I were to do an engine swap and put in the same year engine except 2.0DOHC, would I need a new tranny too?
Second option, is it possible to put in a DOHC in my SOHC engine? I know that that would tremendously increase the power but I dont know if its possible.
My last question is kinda different, but here goes, maybe some of you guys who know the engine like the back of their hand can help, My engine has over 130,000 miles on it, how far into redline can I take it in something like a race situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As far as engine mileage it all depends on the condition of the engine. My engine has 153k and its running strong. Theres no definite answer to how far you can push it, there are too many factors to look into and every engine is different. You might want to do a compression check on the engine to check how its doing. As far as the conversion I found this link in www.vfaq.com

Its possible but not recommended.

You might want to visit that sight to answer some other questions you might have.
Hope this helped :thumb:

I agree with him (even though he basically stole my name and car). I wouldn't rev the car over 6500rpm if you're worried about breaking something. Why are you racing a 1.8 n/t anyways?

I am using the 1.8L to race because it is the easiest engine to modify(other than finding parts) and it is also very easy to work with.

WiCkEd is my gamer tag use it as my profile name in all my games, especially Halo. (Wicked 007 if anyone plays on xbox live)

It was also my handle when I used to tag and do graffiti, but those days are long gone, I have corrected my ways. ;)

As for the car, I was actually going to buy a GST, good thing I didnt though, I would of had to come up with a lame name. Wicked is badass :thumb:

If you want more speed for less money, I would get a Turbo. Then again if it breaks thats extra money having to be put into it. hmmmm decisions decisions. You should still look for a turbo car, preferably an AWD, you'll have a huge advantage when you race from a stop, since racing is what you seem to be into.

Lol, it's all good man. Wicked is badass :thumb: . As for the original poster, I would agree that it is alot easier to make power on a factory 2.0l turbo. AWD will own off the line, and give you an immediate advantage in a race, if that's what you intend to use your car for mostly.
