A couple questions before my engine swap

Damn, I wish I could run like Hahn's eclipse. The reason i was asking about the longevity issue was because my dad will be purchasing the engine, and he is interested in it lasting, while I am more interested in the power side. All I plan on doing to it is the turbo (stage II) nothing wild, just a little boost in my blood.

You will be installing "bulletproof" internals, and with your desire to only have a little bit of boost it will last a long time. Now after you have the kit on your going to up the boost, you just don't know it yet. Esp. knowing you have built internals that can take the abuse. The reason the engines are labeled that way is so that if you strap 40psi of boost to the thing and run lean, your not comming back to them like "your motor failed me". They are not liable for anything with the motor, once you sign for it you are responsible. Basicly they know your buying it to abuse it so they won't replace it if you break it. These parts are MUCH MUCH stronger than your stockers, so it will last longer in the same conditions.

Wow that was just the response I was hoping for. Are there any other things you guys reccomend looking into before I go ahead and order this thing? (I am ok on: head, clutch, possible top end kit, etc.)

Well if your going to order the crarte motor you may as well do the clutch now, cause you won't enjoy dropping the tranny to do it later. I would just upgrade it now since your in there. If you were just doing the turbo kit then I would leave it alone, but if your in there I would go ahead and replace it. Trust me, you will up the boost someday so I would look into a CM stage 3 or 4 clutch, or acctually call bill at gottude.com and talk to him about your clutch needs. If you want a stage 4 CM though, please buy mine instead....LOL

I realize this may be a little late in the thread to post this question, but I must know. Is the HRC Stage II legal for emmissions in California. I asked Hahn in a couple emails, but I recieved a "i dont know your laws so I cant give you and answer. Does anybody have any smog testing experiences?

Also, I have been looking around and finding out more about Howell, and I have heard some pretty negative things about their customer service and accuracy of their orders, especially on www.2gnt.com. Howell also did not give me a definite answer as to weather it was legal in California or not. Is there a Howell equivalent, or are there places to buy the parts necessary for a complete engine rebuild that can handle the HRC Stage II?

You can call VT engines http://www.vtengines.com/home1.htm They may be able to do a stroker for you. Like I said there has been mixed experiences with howell, but that's the case with any vendor. I think Howell is experiencing growing pains though. As a business grows it gets harder to keep up with it. So there is always a struggle to keep up with the growth. Like I said my experiences with howell have always been great, but I am only one man, remember this though if something bad happens people want to tell everyone, but if everything works out the way it was supposed to, they don't say much. Bad press spreads the quickest. I'm not connected in any way to howell, but I have never had an issue with the service or the product.
Edit: To answer your ? about California legality, no nothing is legal in CA, I don't even think you can blow your nose there anymore......LOL But seriously, they can't say much about the motor, and it will pass smog. As for the turbo kit, no it's not carb legal. But there are ways around that. (I wouldn't know them though as I live in the country of VA)

Damn California. Kirby, thank you so much for all of your helpful input. You are well spoken and very informative. Are there any ways that you guys know to get aruond the CARB legality of the HRC turbo? (Anyone from Cali going throgh something simliar?)
