OK I'm new to the dsm world, I'm used to Nissan. but anyways i picked up a 97 talon non turbo about 3 months ago and it was fine until about 3 weeks ago when it lost all power, i mean this thing couldn't get out of its own way, well i was looking into a couple things and have found nothing well about 3days ago the release bearing started rattling around on me and so i figured id go ahead and put a clutch in with the car having 200k on it it probably needs one well before i dropped the trans i pulled the drain plug on the trans and only about a cup of oil came out....... well when i got the clutch out it is almost brand new. so my question is, how strong are these tannyies? because if someone put a clutch in and didn't fill the fluid its been driven like that for at least 3months... I'm putting everything back together tomorrow with royal purple 75-90 any info on these transmissions would be helpful

Why royal purple? Use regular gear oil . I used mobil 1

Please only use gear oil that can be used on the NVT350 Transmission or you will kill your synchrons. I recommend either the ATF4 or even better (but more expensive) the Amsoil makes a really good gear oil.

As for how strong the Tranny's are. I abused the hell out of mine only really problem I had was the TOB went out (very common in these). Eventually it started slipping and popping out of gear, took me a month to get a chance to work on it, found out I had a leak and it was bone dry, filled it up with amsoil and did not have a problem at all after that.

The only time you really need to worry about it beyond basic maintenance, and the TOB is when turbocharging it, you will need a stronger clutch if you are going above 200-250+whp.
