Ok, I have come to the conclusion in buying a N/A Eclipse.

N/A Eclipse - Pros
1. Saves in gas which is 3.64/G Here - Thats not premium thats 87 Oct.
2. Since it is 2,500 less to buy used I can get my new smokin Eclipse in half the time if N/A
3. Since it is N/A That means less mod parts needed to buy, waste gate, boost controller...
4. In the factors of "crankwalk" I believe N/A is half the power of Turbo so therefore it would have less wear n tear effect on the crank n bearing meaning again less money needed.
5. It still has the sexy looks of the :dsm: Eclipse N/A OR Turbo.
6. Same size motor!
7. Still all the same everything else just N/A.

Cons -
1. Not near the torque or whp capabilities.
2. Harder on engine components due to the lack of non force induction.
3. Lack of race potential and spirit.
4. Slower in the long run.

I accept the cons. Here is my situation. I make about anywhere from 500-850 a month at my job. yea. LOL. :beatentodeath: Therefore it is taking quite a long time to come up with 6,500 for the turbo as in 3,000 for the N/A. This is my first car, so I am most definatly not looking for 650 WHP and 18 PSI Boost. I am never going to take it to proffesional drags or tracks. Basically I am a 17 year old who absolutly LOVES the looks of the 2G Eclipse. I am more into the interior and exterior modding right now. But see, its not right to have 8,000 into looks with no go. So I want to have a little power in my hands if I need to move. But I dont need 165 mph. Below is a list of my Exterior, Interior, and performance mods I would like to put on my N/A Car. Please leave comments about my chosen parts, if you think I should buy the N/A or Turbo and why, and if I do buy the N/A Do I buy the RS or GS. Thank you.

Yea so anyways, All I am saying is this.
I know that everyone here does not promote street racing but too bad thats what this is about.
People don't promote street racing because 17 year olds like you who don't have any driving experience want a fast car for street racing. :| Your insurance on a turbo car is going to be around $350-$400 a month unless you put it in your parent's name. After that, you will still have stuff that will break. Do you have enough money for parts and mods and all the speeding/racing tickets that you will get?

97' GS-T said:
I respect all dsm's and even though I am 17 I happen to be one of the only who hates honda civics.
I hate Honda Civics too, they are SLOW cars but I don't hate the people who drive them.

97' GS-T said:
I hate the little mexicans runnin 1.6 liter engine civics with there plastic burger king cup pipe.
I'm not Mexican, but you "little mexican" comment was not needed. If someone called you a red neck with a ricer car or a ###### with a ghetto car, I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it either.

97' GS-T said:
I think I and you all can agree the 2G Eclipse NT or T is still that much better then a little civic.
No, a 2G RS is not better than a little civic. It is just as slow.

97' GS-T said:
My point was, since I love the 2G eclipse, DONT WANT TO pay 4.00 a Gallon for premium ALL the time, do not absolutly do not NEED 650-700 whp nor a 10 second car.
That's funny... you need premium fuel to run a stock turbo 2G.

97' GS-T said:
I want to make the NT 2G eclipse all Riced out.
This is not a ricer forum. This is a performance forum.

97' GS-T said:
But I cant have a totally riced out 2G Eclipse with no power.
Sure you can. It's called a RS without a turbo.

97' GS-T said:
If I pull up to a light all lookin clean and bad and have NO power to beat the CAI civic next to me.
A modded civic could kick a RS or GSs ass in a street race. Don't think all civics are slow, some are fast. They can't keep up with an AWD turbo, but they are definately faster than a damn RS.

97' GS-T said:
So I am asking you guyz, in my situation if I bought a 2G non turbo, I could get it sooner in almost half the time as the 2G turbo, It would save in gas money, and its still the same body and nice looks just not as much power.
True, it will save you money. But don't expect a very fast car.

97' GS-T said:
But I need about 300 whp 13 seconds... My questions are, If I put that headers, Cat back exhaust, cams, valve springs, CAI, HIGH fuel pump and like 500 CC injectors can I have enough power to beat that 18 wheeler on the freeway LOL and the typical civics?
What is this thing about you and beating civics? As said before, we don't condone street racing on here. Meaning, don't ask for opinions on what you should get to beat civics on the street.

If someone has money for the car, parts, maintenance and insurance, has driving experience and is an responsible driver (which you aren't), then by all means they should get an AWD turbo. If you get a fast turbo car you will either a) get so many tickets that you will lose your liscense or b) You'll crash your car and die or c) you'll kill someone in the process.

As Yoda would say, "If to be a ricer your goal is, a Civic should you get". :beatentodeath: Please don't turn a good DSM into a POS rice car.

Alright. This one has gone on about long enough. 97' GS-T, you have asked the same question scores of other young drivers have, and you have gotton the same answers, most of them fairly polite and in-line with what this site is about: performance. Take it under advisement and make your decision. Maybe you will change your mind, maybe you won't, but you won't change OUR minds.

I'll leave this thread open for now but any more useless banter and I will have to close it. And don't start any more related threads, please.

Hi, i just have one comment on getting insureance for the AWD TSi, I just bought one not long ago and insured it in the same policy as my parents, and the liablility was $550, the same price for liablility as my 1990 acura legend sedan. then I made it full coverage and it is only $800 for six months, and considering that i am 17.5 this is not bad. just thought I would clarify the $400-$500 per month on insureance

also, if you get a 2ga you can get a turbo for about the same price as a 98-99 rs or gs of higher miles arent a problem

If you get it on your own policy without being on your parents policy, it will be a lot more expensive than what you are paying right now. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229320

Ok, I have come to the conclusion in buying a N/A Eclipse.

97 Gs Or Rs.

Okay, it sounds like your mind is finally made up. :) Now you can get started figuring out the finer points. Your first question: RS or GS? Well, if you really want a show car, obviously you'll want a few of the finer things in life, so you'll want to go with a GS. It's got a few more options available on it than the base model RS.

The little shopping list you compiled is, as you can see by the responses of some of the members here, a little extreme. It's clear you want your car to look good to YOU, and of course, not everyone will have the same taste as you. As long as you can accept that, you will be able to do whatever you want to your car with no problem. As long as you can listen to fellow DSM'ers saying that your car is ricey and makes them ill to look at, and you can just shrug it off, I'd say you're all set. But if you're going to get mad at people for not liking what you like, accepting your style of modifying, then I foresee problems in the future. Especially at car shows, which is basically where you put your car on display for everyone to see and JUDGE. And believe me, people will judge your car harshly, no matter what you do to it.

So.. on to my suggestions for you, and by no means must you take them. Like I said, this is going to be YOUR car to do with as you see fit. I'm just making suggestions to you now so you don't look back and realize you might have wasted a little money on inferior parts or parts you didn't need.

1. Some of the brands of products you listed aren't exactly top-shelf names. Things like Toucan, APC, and Matrix are what I would call... rice brands. Not that that's a bad thing, but the products they make are inferior in quality to other well-known brands. They're just made to look pretty and sorta-work. For example: the Toucan gauges. Yeah, they're cheap in price, but brands like Defi, Autometer, and Greddy are built for performance; their names are synonymous with reliability, function, as well as appearance. These things reflect in both their price and reputation, at both car shows and the racetrack. You got some things right, though: Sparco and Momo, though I don't know why you wouldn't try to stick with one company to keep things homogenous. They both make seats and steering wheels. You stuck with one company for your audio/visual: Sony. Though I don't understand the need for a Sony Vaio laptop.

2. The performance mods you list don't exactly all go together. They're all great things, but not necessarily when you put them all together. For example, HRC 600cc fuel injectors and a Venom Racing Fuel module. Do you know how the Venom Fuel Module works or what it does? It's not anything like a standalone fuel manager, or even a piggyback controller. An AFC is usually all that's necessary for a NA car to start tuning. What are the 600cc injectors for? Unless you're planning to add a turbo to your list, I don't think you'd have ANY use for that much fuel, especially since you (usually) have to lean out to make power. The Fidanza clutch you mentioned is probably also overkill, especially if you're talking about a four-puck clutch. Again, I see a lot of variation in brand for your parts. If you're serious about making a really awesome show car, you'll try to keep the number of brands (aka SPONSORS) to a minimum. Instead of Fidanza this, Unorthodox that, and ACT over there, you'll be able to say, everything in my drivetrain is by Unorthodox. Simple as that.

Here's my honest advice for you; everything I say in this paragraph is what it all boils down to, even in part what other members have told you: Get your car and take your time when it comes to adding parts. You're not making a whole lot of money right now, so even maintaining a car is going to take a chunk out of it, especially if you get the car and something expensive needs replacing. Start small on your mods. The first thing you'll probably get is an intake. Okay, you've saved up enough for a really good intake, the car's running fine, all the bills are paid. Now you can research all the websites and find THE best intake for your purposes. Maybe it's the AEM V2 intake that you put on your list. But did you exhaust every option? Maybe there's another brand out there that you didn't think of that the 420A crowd is going nuts over because it looks better, performs better, and costs less than the AEM. Right now, it looks like you went through a JCWhitney catalog and started listing all they parts they had for your car, based on name recognition and what you think you'll want in your car. When it comes to the interior and exterior, honestly you've got a whole lot of ricey stuff listed. Maybe that's what you think you want, but if you try to imagine what THAT car that you listed will look like, you may find that some things don't belong. So when buying things, take your time, do the research, and make sure you absolutely want what you're buying, that way you only have to buy it once. When it comes to buying new parts, I agonize over the available options, weighing the price and features of each thing against its competitors. Gauges: VDO, Autometer, Defi, Greddy, etc. "What do each of them have, how much do they cost, how do they look, what is BEST for my car?" That's the question you have to ask every time you buy a part. Then, when some kid comes up to you and says "Hey man, your car's all ricey," you can just look at him and say "I bought the parts that are best for MY car." And you'll be able to say that to anyone on this site if they say the same.

Whatever you decide to do, there will always be people to help you, and that's what this site is for. If you need help in getting started with the performance of a 420A, you know we have that section just for that. I'm sure the NT experts will get you steered in the right direction. I wish you luck in finding a car, and wish you happy modding. Now I'm gonna stop preachin'. :)

Dude.

For my graduation present I recieved a 98 GS-T Spyder from my parents.

I wanted to rice the crap out of it no matter what anyone said (I was a newb). It was an automatic and I didnt care because I figured it would be "fast" once I started adding all the bolt ons and stuff I saw on fast and the furious, LOL. I spend countless amounts of paychecks on useless crap, i.e: carbon fiber dash kit, gauges, mats, stickers, emblems, blah blah...all that pepboys and ebay crap.

2 years later...my car died cause I did not maintain it and didnt spend money on the engine. I didnt listen even after my dad told me to invest in the engine not the body. All that stuff went down the drain. I was able to get 3K for my car with all the stuff included.

My dad said "be patient" because i wanted to just get a GS cause of the money/time issue. A GS is not even on the same planet as a GST/GSX. Yea they are about half the cost, easily 3K but they have half the potential..maybe less as well.

I went one year without a car...

Last week I found a 96 GS-T perfect condition, original owner..all stock cept it was dropped on full tein suspension and had a turbo timer. Perfect body, no damage. (Owned and driven by a chic, they def. maintain their cars) haha.

I paid $3500 cash and now I have money left over..

So, patient is the key, dont rush into stuff..it will come to you within time.

BTW, def. invest more of your money into your engine and maintenance to preserve the life of your car, looks are just looks but they def. wont get you from point A to point B once your car is dead.

TURBO is the way to go...oh yea and get a 5 speed...SO MUCH MORE FUN to drive..

Hope I could help.

Peace

Thats how some of us started... The choice between the gs and rs or the gst and gsx. I really got stressed when I didnt have enough money for the turbo models. I ended up buying a RS. Even though it is not turbo I still had lots of fun and attention just b/c it was a DSM and a awesome looking car.

The more you more interested in the car and the DSM community, most make the switch to the turbo models. But then are the people stick with the N/A heritage and are proud of making the cars look good and proudly saying its a N/T. Just like me and my automatic.

Just do what you want to do! Why should people try to change your mind back and forth?

Remember: N/T, Turbo, Automatic, Manual Rs GS Gst Gsx eclipse laser talon
