95 gsx grinds under acceleration

When accelerating I can feel a grind and smell something, what smells like burnt oil to me. I don't have to push the accelerator that hard but just enough to grind the trans. This happens in any gear, and the faster im going the worse it seems. Third gear also grinds. Time for a rebuild? Axles? Can also randomly it seems hear a popping noise from the middle/rear of the car when moving.

Same thing happened to my friends laser...sounds like bearing failure in the transmission

Simple enough to say its the trans, but I dont want to rebuild it if it is not the problem. Is the popping a related issue? The car leaks no fluids.

I can't say for sure but I'd bet your looking at a trans rebuild...or maybe it could be the carrier bearings for the driveshaft?
