I'm trying to replace the front brake pads on my '95 AWD and have now ordered two different pads from two different stores and both times the pads are too thick to fit on the rotor. The piston is pushed in as far as I can get it. I have a late '95 build date (non-eprom), and the '95 pads did not fit in the rear either, I had to get the pads for a '96. But the guy at NAPA said the front pads for the '95 and '96 are the same, so I don't know what to do.

I had the same problem with my 96, but it was only about 1/8 inch too thick, so we just kept squeezing the pistons and trying, until, by some miracle, they just slipped right on the rotors. Have you tried using a C-clamp to compress the piston? you have to do it slowly, but it'll work eventually.

Its been a long time since i did brakes on an eclipse but generally the pistons push back untill they are flush with the caliper. Its possible that theres a rough spot in the piston bore causing it to bind up and not fully seat like there supose to. Are the left and right sides equally pushed in?

Yeah if the piston is not able to be pushed back to a flush position, i would take the seals off and take a look to make sure there is not a rough spot causing a bind. Regardless though, a c-clip is really nessacary to push it flush, you can not do it by hand

Turns out the pistons weren't pushed all the way in, I bought a c-clamp and now they are. Now the other pad is too thick and I can't get the caliper on the rotor.

Maybe I should add that I have aftermarket rotors, they're the same diameter but maybe they're a bit thicker?
