91 tsi coolant temp gauge

Hi, i'm a nubcake.
and i'm wondering why the hell my coolant temp gauge isn't working?
Sometimes it'll skyrocket into the red then just go ecstatic.. and now it doesn't even work atm.. i also just replaced the thermostat..

Check the wire going to the sensor. It is known to become brittle and break.

i looked and on the coolant temp sensor the greens hooked up but the brown one broke off.. but theres something next to it with a wire coming out thats hooked to nothing?

The one next to the temp sensor is the guage sending unit. That is what sounds like is disconnected and that would be why your temp guage does not work. The brown wire should be fixed as well. You can just cut the stock plug off and use female spade crimp on connectors like I did for both sensors if they are not able to be repaired otherwise.

well i fixed the wiring to the coolant temp sensor but now where does the wire to the other one go to?? .. >.<

It should run to the same wiring harness that connects to the other 2 sensors.

but i need to get a new plug for the coolant temp sensor..

Like stated above, them wire and connectors in there are a pain in the ass. You will be better off cutting them crappy connectors off and putting your own ends on.

so i decided on cutting the wires from the plug at the coolant temp sensor and getting a new plug... any other suggestions
