just bought my new project, 88 conquest. i am putting a 6-bolt monster block in it and i have a couple of questions.

1. how hard is it to come across the 90 big rods, i know they where only made for three months but i do not know what three months they were. where can i find them?

2. what is the website that you can buy new 95 pistons that will be machined over.

I thought all 1g 6 bolt rods were the "big rods" ( thru 92 ) and the 1g 7 bolt rods weren't. Aren't 95-99 pistons all the same???

This is correct. You already have the big rods.

ok thanks .. just wanted to clear that up. ALL THE TIME I see people say they want to get 95 pistons. I'm always thinking .. what's wrong with 97 pistons, or 99 pistons at that. Same with the rods .. people say they want 90 rods .. but how are those different from 91 and some 92s?? So I just wanted to clear it up thanks man. :p

Personally Id rather not have those 95+ pistons over some 1g pistons.

Firstly, you wont need to waste money machining the rods to fit the 2g pistons.

Second, a lower compression ratio will give you a broader window to tune in since its a little more forgiving. This is especially important to me since Im in california with 91 crap gas.

Third, 1g pistons have a fatter ring land, which again, makes it a little more forgiving in the tuning area when it comes to errors, abuse, or stuff breaking.

I agree there ... but a car tuned at 20 psi at 7.8:1 compression and a car at 20 psi at 8.5:1 compression .. which will be faster? Most definitly the 8.5:1. I was even considering the 9:1 route, but like you said, the more compresson the smaller the margin to tune.

there is three months out of the 90 car that the rods are bigger. sep., oct., nov. of 89 are the months that the rods are bigger. you can check at the dealership and the part numbers are different, same w/ the 95 pistons they are a different part number than the rest.

What are you talking about? The "big" rods are a reference to all rods on cars (4g63t) with build dates up to around may of 92, give or take a couple months since there wasnt a set date. All late 92+ turbo 4g63s came with the "small" rods.

"Big" rods were produced in egines built from March 1, 1989 to April 3, 1992.

8.5:1 pistons are all the same from Jan 1, 1994 until end of production.

Like I said, there is no set date where there were no more big rods. Ive seen cars with may '92 build dates that have the big rods.

Towards the end of a run of cars, they will just mix and match the left over stuff.
