Hi everyone my name is Austin and I started my DSM journey with a 1996 Eclipse GS A/T I picked up for $850. It needed all the timing components changed, so I did that and when we got it running it just didnt feel right so I sold it two weeks later for $1500. I did more research on Eclipses and decided that if I was going to buy one it was gonna be a GSX. Fast forward through five months of searching and I picked up my GSX in the fall of 2011, when I was a junior in High School. My initial plan was to make it a Fast and Furious replica car, but one day I was looking at videos of Lamborghinis making 1/4 mile passes and thought to myself, "how cool would it be to have a 4cyl thats faster than that." And the idea was born. Anyway, I payed $2600 for the GSX but it had a spun rod bearing:cry:. Now for some of you guys on here its nothing for yall to swap an engine, but keep in mind I was a 16 Year old high schooler who hadnt done anything more than change oil in a car before. So my dad and I trailered it home, started it to confirm the knock, put it on the garage, and with one swift pull of a wrench my journey to 750awhp began.

This is what it looked like when I got it.

Being that I was in high school, it took me about 3 weeks to disassemble everything.

I will post the build of the replacement engine in a seperate post.

Its going to take a lot to get to 750awhp LOL Im interested to see how you do.

What kind of power have to made in a dsm before?

gotta learn how to crawl befor you can walk, "cant just hop in the ring with Ali cause you think you can box" LOL

good luck tho, its takin me gobs of time money and heart ache just to even break 500awhp

750 will be some pretty big shoes to fill.

agin, good-luck

I think you are getting ahead of yourself completely in calling this a 750 awhp thread.

do you plan to drop 20+ grand into the car? LOL

Compose a future mods list and post it. Im interested to see how you think you are going to be able to put down that kind of power.

Listen to these words of wisdom. You need to change this thread title to 350awhp and go from there in the learning process. You are talking like you're STILL a 16yr old highschool kid. Hell, I've seen 16yr olds with more sense than "I'm gonna go from oil changes to a 750awhp build". The plus side.......you're already halfway to your Fast and Furious replica"..... :ohdamn:

In reality, yes. you can build a 750awhp dsm. Anyone can with the proper funding, time , and resources.
But even the people that can afford it arent always able to handle it...

It would be cool if I could afford to have a tow around DSM.. but ide much rather have a car that makes sense for me. I have driven ton of cars, Ive made a decent amount of power previously, and Ive been in more powerful cars than mine. This is how ive come to a conclusion on what I want to build. I learnt to drive the hell out of my car. I wouldnt step into a high hp car with no experience and a lack of understanding in its driving characteristics.
If you ever ended up with a 500awhp dsm... well.. I dont think you understand how much power that is. The member above me can vouch for this. Things become scary even above 400awhp.. Some serious modifications and planning need to me made at this point.
If you ever want to drive this monster anywhere other than the drag strip, it would be pretty ridiculous.
Its fun to push a car really hard!! thats why were all here.
But how often could you open the tap on a 750awhp dsm. LOL

Ok, so to answer questions. My GSX now is making around 250hp (its never been dynoed). It seems like everyone is thinking that im doing this in one swap straight to 750 and that's it. That is not at all what im doing, i am going to hit smaller goals first i.e 350, 500, 600, 750. This journal is probably going to take at least 6 years before i get to 750hp, because i am 18, about to graduate high school, and going to get a bachelors degree in Business Management starting in August. But the final goal, that i promise to everyone who reads this, is that i will get to 750hp.

I got everything disassembled and i looked up who to get my rebuilt engine from. I saw dsmgraveyard and read a little about them and thought well they only deal with mitsu's so they must be good at it. This turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes ive ever made. I ordered a mostly stock rebuild on Dec. 27. About 2 1/2 to 3 weeks later I recieved the Cylinder Head which was completely stock. The two things wrong with the Head was they sent me the wrong cam gear style, and one of the cam gears was cracked (i didnt notice this until after we started putting the engine together).

While I was waiting to get the block I went ahead and did the BSE on my new oil pump and rebuilt the Big 16g that the car came with.

So im waiting for the block which was bored .020 over to accept EVO 9 8.8:1 pistons and has ARP rod bolts. I called a few times to check on it, and everytime they said it was in final honing, so after about 2 months i was starting to get really pissed. Finally in late March (3 months later) i finally got the block which was sent in a mangled plastic tote from wal-mart, with a folded up cardboard box as packing material. I opened it up to find one of the Head guides was bent in.

I got everything in the engine bay and had to swap some vacuum lines around and swap some switches but after a few days it was running and we broke it in on the highway.

Why on earth would you start out with stock Evo 9 pistons if you have a final goal of 750whp?? You are guaranteeing yourself another engine build in the future to hit that goal. I promise you, if you ever want to hit your goals you don't want to be wasting time and money by doing things 2, 3 or 4+ times.

"I remember my first beer";)

I don't understand such an investment like this, you should've atleast atleast went with forged internals or something, then you'd have growing room. Or leave what's in your car alone and build a seperate motor on the side to accomodate the 750hp. It sounds like you're wasting too much money now and not thinking about future plans. Numbers sound great. Hell, I'd love to hit 800hp in my FWD but that's not going to happen unless you plan way ahead and save that money. I wouldn't keep puting money in to things you're just going to have to keep upgrading to hit the next HP goal. Just saying. Good luck with everything though and I hope you get there. Be careful who does your building and research the hell out of whoever it is.

I hope this comes together for ya Austin! The Block looks cool!

Maybe just lose the 750awhp tag for now..

Im thinking I should take my 450awhp tag down so I dont get flamed LOL
But in all reality, Im really close to that goal.

You will definitely be building another motor (or two) before you reach your final goal of 750awhp.

Just sayin. Other than that, The engine looks good!

first mod! a/c delete :p

And plan on buying a big expensive turbo. That 16g won't take you anywhere near your target hp.

not to be harsh guys, sorry. but for a noob to step into the beloved forums and start claimin 750HP figures....

c'mon

better chances of winning american idol

Everyone's gotta chill. Like someone said earlier, you need the time, money and resources. I'm not sure if any of you know this guy personally but Im pretty sure you guys don't. Just because he's young doesnt me he can't apply himself. 750 is def not as realistic of a figure as let's say 400 but its not impossible.
