alright- i used to have a 97 GSX with a 6 bolt. I bought a 60 trim, .63 hotside for it- had all supporting mods- ran between 15 and 20 psi on pump- 93 octane- pretty much daily, up to 25 psi on race gas (too much boost- i know)

now with a 95 TSi AWD with the 60K stock 7 bolt, i'm gonna rip the head off for some prep. I'm not positive if the stock head studs will hold more than 15 psi from this turbo, so I'm probably gonna throw ARP studs in it, but .....which headgasket? And can someone explain the process and cost of o-ringing the head for me? And as a safety precaution, would it be a good investment to O-ring the head for this turbo? When i build it, which will probably be next fall, I'll be looking into a 2.4 stroker kit- i think Eagle makes em' now, but I'd like to enjoy my car this summer, which is why i'm gonna hold off on the build.

So- which headgasket for 20 psi on 93 octane, daily, and what about o-ringing for extra insurance?....

thanks in advance.

20psi-stock is more thsan sufficient from any turbo. I run 21 psi on my pte 50 tirm stock long block except for hks cams. over 100k miles. A 60 trim at those boost levels isn't going to flow any more air.

O-ringing is what it sounds like. Putting a copper o ring around the cylinder bores to help them seal better. Not needed in your case. Arp hardware is more than sufficient. The stock hg is pretty good stuff. I recomend one of those or maybe a cometic one.

What turbo would

I agree, the ARP's and either stock or cometic (everyone has diff opinions). Consider some cams and make the block is in good shape and that is more than preppared for ANYthing that turbo can do (even at 25psi IMO). Good luck,

Austin

i've got HKS 264i/272e cams- just waiting to be installed.
so even at 20 psi, you guys don't think the stock head bolts are being stretched?
i had AMS do the 6 bolt swap on my old 2G and they told me that even with a 6 bolt, 20 psi without a mitsu. metal headgasket and ARPs is asking for trouble. on a 7 bolt its a different situation?

Buschur runs stock HGs and ARPs on all their cars including the race cars. It just depends on who you talk to:)

good point-
and i guess with careful tuning and paying attention to whats going on with the car, i could avoid potential disaster- (or at least keep the car on the road for most of the summer...)

i suppose just some new ARP studs and a fresh mitsu headgasket should do the trick.

I got the 4 layered metal gasket and arp studs. Have at least the head decked to be safe. I had both the head and block decked. O-ringing isn't necessary unless you plan to run 30+ psi.

crankbender: I was kidding :D my point was that the 50trim@21 psi is pretty efficient in that range and can put out such wonderful numbers if supported right... I know there are more out there. But thanks

LOL i didn't even look to see who asked.... i just figured it was an honest question.

LOL right now.

I know a turbo that will flow more air you just have to get with the ship producer...its only 8 feet tall.

/serious off
