Like many 2g DSM owners I have the infinity head unit/amp/cd-changer combo. Well actually my car came with the cd changer spot but no changer.

I know CDs are dying fast and I wanted to make a CD-changer--> AUX (3.5mm jack) adapter for ALLL 2gs!

I found out that the CD-changers ports in our cars are a standard 13-pin din cable I bought one and tried it out and fit just like the stock cd changer cord. Well because I dont have a stock cd changer I dont know where the signal is coming in and what is activating the deck to switch over to the changer.

If someone is good with an oscilloscope and has a cd changer in their car and would like to help me make this cable I would compensate accordingly. Apparently this cable used to be made, but the company making them discontinued a couple years ago and it was direct plug in to CD changer port to 3.5 jack.

here is the cable that fit right in the 13 pin din in the back of the stock radio

I suspect there is a pin that needs to be powered... or grounded out for the deck to switch over to the changer.

If it is this simple I would like to sell these cables for 10-20 bux and would compensate the helping party accordingly.

I you live in Florida and would meet up with your changer ready to test I could throw you some cash that way too!

a local audio shop had a... eclipse 13pin din cable that went to .. ipod, 3.5mm,and a couple other connections. I tried hooking it up and using the 3.5 jack but it wouldnt let me acess the CD changer... if someone can figure out how to tell the radio that the cd changer is there without it acually being there those of us with infinity systems can finally have a cd quality MP3 hookup!!!

I have several older cars and yes they all have excellent audio but they have cassettes and CDs. The issue is how to get rid of the CDs and cassettes and install a simple mini plug or usb to support all my thousands of songs on mp3. It's not that easy because radio designers have done some things to protect themselves. I have a page that discusses this in more detail

installing mini-jack

I only deal with the cassette part of it but it’s very much the same with CD because designers have installed certain codes within the CD unit that tell the radio what status it is in. Until you can simulate this condition you can’t make the radio believe that it is in CD play state or cassette forward play state. A lot of it depends on finding a schematic which my brother tells me is the first step. He says that the easiest way is to tap into the audio circuit with a circuit tracer and use the AM mode, since the CD or cassette modes have too much status information going on between them and the radio. Or as he says give it up and buy a new head unit. I am not satisfied with this way because the radio I have is tuned for the car and other head units just don’t sound as good. :rocks:
