6 bolt swap how-to's

so if i go out to my local junkyard and get a 6bolt engine*, can i just drop it in with minor wiring that i have to do. I think that i read somewhere that the engine mounts are different. Are the electrical plugs on the 7bolt mostly the same as on the 6bolt?

*When i say engine, i mean the TB, Intake MF, turbo, exhaust manifold, head and bottom end.

You use all the electrical sensors and plugs off of your 7-bolt and put them on your 6-bolt.

Since there is only 1 motor mount actually on the motor of your 7-bolt, you only need to modify that one. All the others are on your tranny and bolt up just fine.

In short, all you do is hack a bit out of your 2g motor mount so it clears the 1g water pump and put a 1g CAS on there and wire it to your crank/cam sensor wires and your set.

The wiring is not the same, from the 6bolt and 7bolt. Because at this very moment i am doing a 6bolt swap. ECUs and wiring harness are completely different. Unless the motors you are using are both obd2 then it will be the same. Other than that prepare for wiring and splicing and definately have to modify the driver side motor mount to make it fit. The motor should drop right in with no problems after that.

Wiring should be almost identical with the exception of the CAS sensor which you will need to splice in. Also recommended is swapping the injector wires around on the ecu. Honestly, I didn't notice a difference with mine. Both motors will NOT be obd2 compliant because 6-bolt motors were prior to '96 when all cars had to be OBD2. You can use your 7-bolt ECU just fine though. You will also need to swap your plugs around.

Yea, I never had to do any splicing or anything excet for the CAS/injector rewire. If you use all the 2g sensors, they bolt right up to your 2g harness...don't splice 1g sensors in there.
