Would a 4g61 1.6L DOHC motor be compatible with parts from a 4g63 2.0L DOHC motor. Moreover, would the ECU that powered a 1993 Talon with the original 4g63 2.0L DOHC motor be compatiable with the 4g61 motor and run everything just as well?

wtf is a 4g61, some kind of jdm engine, ive heard of the 4g67, which is the 1.8l dohc, is there a 4g69879 too?

they parts should be comaptable, are you looking to put a 4g63 turbo kit on it? that would be sweet, kinda like a honda, only better, cause its not a honda

The 4g61 came in the Eagle Summit, Mistubishi Mirage, and Doge Colt. Apprently came on some models of the Lancer as well. I would like to put a 4g63 Turbo on it and/or maybe do some other parts. However, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what motor I have. The stamp on the engine block says it's a 4g61, however, we swapped out parts from a 4g63 (Eagle Talon ES) and put it on the engine we pulled from the Summit. We changed parts such as mounts, alternator, the cam positioning sensor, AC, etc.

Should I look into replacing the ECU with an ECU for the correct engine model?

Is it na or turbo? my 89 colt gt has a 4g61t in it, with those, the ecu is very similar to a 90 turbo ecu, but the mas and the injectors are not the same, so the calibrations are different on each ecu. For those who dont know, the 61 is basically a 4g63 with a shorter stroke. Check out this site for more info: www.4g61t.org

Ok, now I see what you're doing, I hope, the 4g61 is a 1.6l version of the 4g63. If you are swapping the 61 into the talon, use the talon ecu and intake manny, coil, and all electronics on the intake manifold, and the cas. You should be able to use the head off of the 4g63, but I would'nt as you will really lose alot of low end(its not like you wouldnt already lose enough with the 61 swap :p ) I hope that is enough info for you. I f not, keep asking ?s. :thumb:

Well the swap was a mistake. My brother thought he was getting a 4g63 not a 4g61. I'm just trying to figure out what all I can do with a 4g61 as opposed to a 4g63. I think I will do the mods outlined in the 1G NT section of the tuning guide on this site (everything but the forced induction). Anything else I should consider doing or would it be better jut to save my money and get a 4g63?

If you are planning to do mods, I would just find a 4g63, I'm not sure on the hp of an NA 4g61, but it's probably not much. For the basic NA mods that you could do to the '61, it would probably still not make as much power as a totally stock '63. Where did you find an NA '61 and is it DOHC? I've personally only seen them on euro and japanese CSMs. The american models came with a 4g15, as far as I know. With the exception of the 4g61t :D

As far as I know the 4g61 is 123 HP and the 4g63 is 130 HP, when both are NT. This engine came out of a 1990 Summit and it is DOHC.

If they are that close, it's up to you. If you are wanting to squeeze every bit of power out of the na, I'd go with a '63. I think my '61t is only rated at 130 bhp. It is just what you want to spend, and how much work you are willing to do.

ok the 4g61t if it is turbo is just a lil restricted power house!

eveything from a 63 will fit a 61 EVERYTING!!!

my advice is to swap in a 63t if it is na, everything will bolt right up, the 4g61 na come in colts summits and mirages but only in the 4 doors, honestly the na is weak sauce swap in a 63t and please refer here as mentioned before to help you TONS of info!!!!!!

4g61t.org

the turbo version came with a very rescrtive exuast mani and a small 11b turbo yes thats right an 11b, and once you open that up man the possibilites are just as good as the 63t, there have been guys that have run low 12's with the 61t and a few in the 11's (confirmed)

Most parts will fit, but some won't, like the timing belt and the water pump. For the most part as ezspoolin said, almost everything will fit :thumb:

Actually the mechanic didn't report any problems with the timing belt not fitting. However, the water pump for a 4g63 didn't fit on the engine.

The timing belt "will" fit, but it is a few teeth longer, I was told by other members of 4g61t.org not to use it on a 4g61, it would probably be wise to put the correct one on if it isnt the right one, it may cause the hydraulic tensioner to be out of range, Ive never tried it, just heard other's stories. Actually, I'm changing my t-belt and water pump tonight on my Colt GT.

when i said everything i should of specified.....................silly me.............

pistons, rods......ya know internals DO not use the timing belt BAd NEWS!!!!! imho i would get a hyundai excel hatch swap in the 63t and do the awd conversion, and then slap a hyundai valve cover on there and go incognito, i mean come on who in there right mind would tke that seriously???? :D

and no if he buys a dead colt, summit, mirage,(89-92) UNLESS he has the 61 or 61t it will not bolt right up, the 4g15 is a lil more complicated just swap mounts, wiring harness, injector resistor pack and drive axel from a 63t and your golden.
