I've been looking around on what it would take to get a 400hp on an AWD 1g.
I think I know what it is going to take but I'd like to get some more opinions.
I currently have a 14b, and love how it feels, want to have a turbo that is as fun as the 14b.

I want to get this done as cheap and reliable for a dd as possible.

your asking for alot right there. It would be hard to use a smaller frame turbo on pump gas to reach your goal. A BW S25x series in a bolt on housing or a holset hx35 in a bolt on housing could net those number on pump while still producing a decent spool time.

First, make sure your engine is good and solid mechanically and take care of all your maintenance. You have a 1991 so most of the maintenance is probably about 19 years overdue.

Second, follow the upgrade path, it is proven and works.

Third, if you want a turbo that is fun like the 14b, then the 16g is a great, fast spooling upgrade. However 400 hp is a little out of its normal range. I have similar goals and will be using the Buschur Racing TD05/6 hybrid 20g. Really the choice is up to you and the options are endless.

Lastly, Cheap, Fast, Reliable. Pick two. You can be cheap and fast but it won't be reliable. You can have fast and reliable but it won't be cheap. Or you can be cheap and reliable but it won't be fast. Sorry to burst that bubble for you.

Hope this helps!
