Ok, I am trying to set base timing in my 2g with a 6-bolt. I know the timing adjustment ground in the 1g is different than the 2g. I believe that the 2g ground looks like a 2 prong harness? My question is does anyone have a pic available so I am looking at the right harness, if so how did you guys fit an alligator clip in there?

Also, for any AEM EMS users. I am running the AEM and wondered if I still even need to ground the ecu like this to set base timing since it is a full stand alone?

There is only a grounding harness on the 95's, 96-99 there is no way to ground the timing unless you have DSMlink, not sure about AEM EMS.

When I did my 6 bolt swap and didnt have DSMlink, I was told you can pull the fuel pump relay and set the timing while cranking the motor. During cranking (not running) the ecu has 0 timing and doesn't move timing around, it is the only time the ecu is not tampering with timing, so it is the only time you can physically set the cas in the correct position. So while cranking you set it to 0*-1*. I personally tried this before getting DSMlink, it DIDNT work for me. Once I installed DSMlink and grounded the timing, it was still at 1* while it was idling. So I adjusted it to 5* where it should be.

Hope that helps...

I think I am going to try and just set it without then. Thanks for the reply. I cannot see the harm as I can physically change base timing with the AEM even if I didn't have the adjustable cas.

Well Im not sure how AEM EMS works, but I know that without it, the ECU always assumes your base timing is at 5* whether it is or isnt. So you have to adjust it manually with a timing light through the CAS so that what the ECU is assuming is actually correct.

You have to tell the AEM what the timing is. So I sort of answered my own question, hah.

yea, lock/set teh timing on the AEM at 10 for all the idle areas and then set to 10* on the pully

Why 10*? The base timing is supposed to be 5*

To the OP, I talked to the person who told me to set it to 0-1* while cranking, he told me he was mistaken. That your actually suppose to set it to 5-6* while cranking, so If you do that it should work with no problem since when I set it to 1* is stayed at 1* when the car was idling. Crank it over and set it to 5*, it would have worked for me the first time If I would have had the correct info and set it to 5* while cranking.

NO reason, I've always used 10 to "sync" the timing, I run 11* at idle though, and the stock ECU (2g) runs about 8.5, but as soon as you get over 1k RPM it's up to 15 or so on a stocker. I guess i choose 10 because there's always a mark for it.

Yeah I have mine set for 11.5 advanced at idle. I will be bring it down under 10 to around 8 or so.
