Hey guys. I have a quick question. I searched but can't really find what I need.

How much WHP is possible for teh 2G N-T?? I mean with typical mods (exhaust, intake, cams, electronics all that) what is it capable of? Also, when buying the turbo model does it have any affect on exaust tone? If its a turbo does it sound different then the N-T/?

What would it take parts wise to reach 250 whp?

Thanks. :)

You can have a real good amount of power come out of the 420a. But only if it is done right. Best advice would be research. Try and find tuners on here who have built up a N/A and ask them some questions.

For question 2: Yes the 420a and 4g63 have very different exhaust tones. Its because a number of things. The exhaust systems are completly different (becasue of the obv). Also the valve train. So of course a different tone is going to be created.

Also the Turbo is a huge restriction in the exhaust flow of you engine (but for good reason ofcourse). This does cause turboed cars to have a deeper throartier sound to them. :dsm:

It won't be easy to reach 250whp. It'll be pretty hard to reach even 200whp. A stock 2g n/t comes stock with 140hp, I'm not sure if this is to the wheels or not, I don't think so, someone else chime in on that part. Without turboing or spending thousands, I dont' think it's possible for 250whp.

To achieve this most efficiently, you're going to need a turbo kit. If you don't want to spend hours upon hours gathering your own parts, or you don't have the technical know how, the Hahn turbo-kit is a good place to start.

The Stage II kit from Hahn is good up to about 275hp at the crank: we'll say that's about 200whp. To make the extra 50whp you'll need to rebuild the bottom end with forged internals and upgrade the fuel system by swapping the fuel regulator that came with the kit for a S-FMU and adding 350cc+ injectors.

The Stage II kit from Hahn is about $2,500, and a bottom end rebuild will cost you anywhere from $1,500-$2,000. It sounds like a lot of money to drop, but the good news is that after you get that far, you won't have anything getting in your way of making even more power. If you get a stand alone fuel management system, you'll be able to run 12's.

Actually, the cat-back exhaust systems (save for the muffler) between the 2G RS, GS, and GS-T are exactly identical; right down to the piping diameter. The GSX exhaust is similar (including piping diameter), but with the obvious concessions for AWD.

Correct. Besides the muffler and piping diameter, the presence of a turbocharger is perhaps the biggest factor when it comes to determining exhaust note.

The stock 2G N/Ts came with 140hp at the crank; that's ~90-100whp.

pm DSMcrazy3 he has a n/t doing pretty good from what I have heard.
So Josh has a little reputation now, huh? :p

With "New Member" status, I don't believe he'll be able to post in that forum.

Edit: I also agree with the HRC turbo kit option. I've seen quite a few 2g-NT's with the Hahn kit and have to say, it's quite impressive. When I was at my first Shootout, we hung out with the 2g-NT guys and they were talking about all the advantages of an RS-t or GS-t as opposed to a GST or GSX, the primary one was the point where you're still only paying insurance for a non-turbo. And as long as no other racers at your local track know you're turbo, you can suprise them... once. :)

The 420A is a very competent engine. I see it as though the RS/GS and GS-T are nearly equal platforms: 2.0L FWD engines. The GSX has the advantage of being AWD.

Ah.. now I see that line under the "420a Bolt-on Tech" title. Thanks for the tidbit of info. :thumb:

But, it seems as though to get the same amount of HP out of a N/T vs. a turbo, the N/T would take a lot more money and work just to get to even with a turbo. If you have the N/T and want to keep the car but want turbo, that seems like a viable option. But, buying an N/T with the intentions of making it turbo isn't as good of an idea because of all the extra money and work needed to convert said N/T to a turbo.

It's all a matter of opinion; we've had plenty of 420A vs. 4G63 threads before, though, so lets try to not get into that again...

I dont think youd get over 200hp to the wheels with a n/t of a 2.0 size. You'd either require nitrous, turbo, or supercharger to reach higher power levels.
But you could be fast enough to race some pretty quick hondas all motor.
When mines was a n/t before the swap, I got up to 128 at the wheels on my 4g63 n/t .

Just out of curiousity, do they make stroker kits for 420A's? I've never seen one, but that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Yes they do. Howell Automotive sells a 2.2L stroker kit that comes with their custom forged crank, rods, and pistons. I also know of one other kit that is currently under development.

420As also have a 2.4L factory stroked variant that can be swapped into our cars (it's not a perfectly direct swap, but the custom work isn't too bad). That 2.4L can be further stroked to 2.5L and 2.7L.

I would imagine that a 2.4 or 2.5 or even 2.7 stroked motor with a HRC or similar turbo kit could produce some very respectable numbers. :)

Chris (GSGoinFast) is doing a 2.4L swap as we speak. The benefits are that the 2.4L motors can be found in many easily-found Chrysler cloud cars. Furthermore, they accept SRT-4 internals, which aren't forged, but are a hell of alot stronger than our stock internals. They're also just as cheap as our stock internals (~$60 for a piston/rod combo).

The larger displacement will certainly help spool a turbo, but the stroked aspect limits RPM range, and thus, top end power too.

Bottom line, 2.0L engines of any kind can put down decent power - 2.7L is just icing on the cake. :)
