2g gst has me stumped

hey all! I'm having an issue, and I'm brand new, so don't be too hard on me . Haven't been able to find any helpful answers so far. My 98 gst runs just fine on cold start (even though it has a leaking flex pipe that im going to fix). When I drive it for a little bit and it gets up to temperature, after I shut it off the next time I start it up it runs extremely rough, and has no power. I almost have to floor it to get up the hill on my street. After it sits for a while it starts up just fine again. There is a cel on, but my scanner won't communicate with it at all.
Any help or suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Probably the cam shaft sensor. My old gst did this as well, it eventually got to the point where after you turn it off and try to start it back up it would run for a few second then shut off.

Could also be the coolant temp sensor. Might want to swap that out. Its cheap enough to replace.

There is a cel on, but my scanner won't communicate with it at all.

If it runs good enough to get to an autoparts store, drive over & have them scan it & get you the code(s). Would be better than guessing & throwing parts at the problem.

What you describe can also be the classic vapor lock hot start problem usually caused by a bad fuel pressure solenoid. Very easy to check https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/vapor-lock-hot-start.217349/#post-1821514.

I tried. Eeprom is locked, so I haven't found a way to get into it. I have a much better scanner than they do, but don't know of anywhere that can actually get into it unfortunately

Like i said sounds like a cam angle sensor. Theyre pretty cheap at autozone go get one and try it. If it doesnt fix it then return it.
