I tried looking for a similar thread but couldn't find what I was looking for. I was wondering if I should go with a greddy type-s or the rs. And what is the difference between both of them? I know if i go with the type-s I would have to buy it used since they are discontinued but if i go with the RS than i could buy it new. But does it make a difference if the bov is new or used? Thanks.

erm their are nearly similar
in terms of sound
rs gives a swoosh n s gives a whistle at times
for holding boost
rs has a bigger piston in it
bt type s has two nipples incase u r running low boost

People have used both with success and good reliablity. Its more a matter of personal preferance. The RS has some updates and new designed features, most of which are probably irrelivent. The only major difference is that you will need to buy or make a recirculation kit for the RS (like $20 for GReddy's) because it comes equiped with a discharge port that's meant to be vented. The S will connect right up to the recirc tube.

New and used probably won't make a difference, just make sure its working correctly before you buy it. The BOV will more than likely out live the car, I've never heard of age related aftermarket BOV failure.

I'm using an RS and I have no complants, it works well and I like the fact that its designed first and foremost to do its job and not just to make a loud sound. I'd definately buy it again.

I doubt Tial would be needed though, this sounds like a lower boost application and Tial is a little more expensive, however much more reliable in any case as you progress with the car.

I have a type S and i love it. I run 20psi and don't have any probs with it holding boost. It sounds neat when it blows off at low boost, sorta like a metal bird LOL.

Who's running the RS recirc'd? I dont want to vent, yet I do want the sound. Is it loud recirculated? No, Im not a ricer, but it is my first boosted car...I just wanna do it right.

Same here, recirc is plenty loud, especially if you have a metal intake pipe. And just a tip if you want a little extra noise (and to help it flow better), ditch that twisted "S" shaped crap stock recirc hose and just use a slightly curved piece of radiator hose, the lower hose is the perfect size. Then its a straight shot from the BOV to the intake pipe, no twists and kinks.:thumb:

i had a type-s for a while and absoultly hated it, it sounded like crap...and didnt really hold like i wanted it to under high boost

if your going to spend the money check out the Tial valve

Id have to disagree, I have the type-S and i love the sound and i've never had a problem with it holding under boost (however, i do only have a stock turbo)

Well, there you go. WTF That is why you are loving the sound, you are only pushing a stock turbo at stock boost... not anything to brag about. :| He is asking which is better, and everyone else here said there piece and already hit the nail on the head. I had the type S, but it is dull, and the purple and chrome doesnt match, especially when it dulls after it gets hot once, and you cant polish it out either. And yes, the new "MODS" Greedy has put on them, maybe they help, who knows, it is still too new to tell anything yet. Well, it is a preference though.... I personally love my RS, and I wouldn't trade it for the world either, it is loud recird or vented. Well, to each thier own....

I've used both the type S and the type RS and I liked them both (I have the RS now). I have a soft plastic recirc hose (not the best for sound) and I can still hear the BOV if Im above 10 lbs of boost, if its below 10 lbs I really cant hear it, but then again my car is loud as hell so it might just be my car drowning out the BOV. If I were you I would just get which ever BOV you like more. If you like the purple type s then get that one, if you like the chrome and blue thyp rs get that one.

i found that the type-s is temperamental regarding the adjustment screw (however, i am having hood clearence issues at the time being). i would assume the rs would be a similar issue. the adjustment screw just doesn't like to be touched by anything else other than an allen wrench:|

I was also thinking about getting a 1g bov. Is there any difference in sound and performance. I know the 1g bov can hold a good amount of boost but I was wondering which is the better one to go with. I do plan on upgrading my turbo to a evo 3 16g. But not for awhile.
