Ok i just got my vortech in the mail today, im confused on how this thing goes on the pump. I bought both new, but neither came with manuals or anything. I read some guides in the tech section, I know how to get the fuel pump in, but I dont know how to get the FMU in. I saw one guide say it goes in the engine bay, and another says it goes under the backseat.

SO far I have figured out that the fmu's vaccuum hose is the one that is singled out. the other side has 2 flared fittings, but I dont know which is in and out. some help pls?

I even made a small picture in paint so someone can label it for me? thanks

A is the walbro pump and B is the FMU

1 Vacuum Connector?
2 ???
3 ???
4 Filter Thing
5 ???
6 Electrical Pump Connectors

1vac
2fmu inlet (from fpr return line)
3return back to tank
4filter
5fuel pump outlet(goes to rail:thumb: )
6wires

ok dude you have to know what fuel system you have. you are a 96 so you could have either the fpr on the fuel rail or the fpr by the tank.

if fpr is on the rail. find the return line and connect your #2 in line on the rail side then your #3 to the tank.(like a t) then vac (1) goes to the intake mani

if fpr is by the tank. the fmu goes the same as above on the return line. then you have to run a long vac line to the intake.

either way the fmu is like a tee on the return line. 2 is on the fpr side and 3 is on the tank side.

you will see how the fuel pump works when you take yours out. it all makes since.

when you say to the tank, how do I connect it to the tank? is there an extra hole in the fuel pump assembly to flow fuel back to the tank?

the stock fpr has a fuel line that runs back to the tank you put the fmu between the fpr and the tank on that fuel line i think I have a paint diagram of it somewhere. If you have the late model fuel system and your fpr is in the back under the car then its the short rubber hose going from the fpr to the top of the tank when you take the back seat out that you are putting the fmu in line on

edit: here's a diagram that tells what you have to do to install a sfmu but you can see in the diagram what I mean about the rubber line (assuming your late model fuel system) that runs from the stock fpr into the tank

Also read gsgoinfast's write-up he has better pictures about halfway down that show exactly how it has to be set up once again this is assuming you have the late model fuel system its the same concept for the old, but you people usually just mount the fmu under the hood then and run a hard return line back to the tank

In case you needed any clarification, here's two schematics of both set ups with the FMU.

^^^now that's impressive, and puts my picture to shame

I put the FMU right before the dump back into the tank. I am not sure where my FPR is, so everything is still not back on 100%. I ran out of time and sunlight today so I just threw everything together best I could.

Where in the engine bay would the FPR be and where would it be if it was in the back by the tank?

Also, my line going from the tank to the engine was brazed, so I cut it using wire cutters, then connected a hose and 2 clamps to get it back. At first it leaked, so I tighted the clamps as much as I could then it stopped leaking. The pump makes a high pitched whine, but Im thinking it does that because its a pump and not because its broken, correct me if im wrong.

if you follow the line you put your fmu on to its source, that is the fpr/fuel filter. the walbro 255 is loud, turn up your music.:rocks:

The sound of my Walbro priming when I turn the key reminds me of sitting in a jet before take off...

It's been a while since I put my fuel system together, but I remember reading that there aren't any brazed fittings. They look like it, but you should've been able to just use a wrench to get everything off.

Come to think of it, I do remember seeing a "brazed" fitting, but I didn't cut anything.

Fitment is key with fuel systems. I was using 5/16" lines (my FMU had 5/16" barbs), until I realized my stock fuel lines were all 1/4". The difference in diameter wasn't big, but I was dumping fuel like crazy out of the new connections. Make sure everything fits right, and clamp down those hose clamps tightly with a socket.

and my fmu is just hanging out in my backseat right now with some long hosing, im gonna need to shorten the hose, but its so damn cold and now its raining and icing.

I think I did it correctly though, just made a drive that used to cost me 10$ in gas, and it cost me 10$, and a little more, so my walbro is not completely overflowing my engine

your walbro only pumps the fuel. your fpr keeps the pressure constant and your injectors control the amount of fuel that goes into your motor(cylinder). your walbro just gives you access to more fuel when you need it. ie(fmu sinces boost or when you have larger injectors and are running more boost which requires more fuel.)

glad you got it installed ok though.
