I bent my rear hub assy and i decided to replace the entire rear trailing arm with one i purchased off ebay.
It came off a 91
"Removed from a 1991 Red Eclipse GSX VIN#4A3CT64U3ME003887 with approximately 112000 Miles. Car had a 5-Spd and a 2.0 Liter DOHC Turbo Engine. This should fit most 1st Generation models from 90-94 Some parts have exceptions."

I painted it up all nice and went to put it on only to realize the stub for the damper to bolt on to the new one is a larger diameter! It almost looks like there is a sleeve over the stub that maybe wasnt removed, like it was the metal sleeve from the old damper that ripped out of the rubber bushing, there is even some rubber on it still. Any ideas, is there a difference between 1g year models??? I am at a loss what to do.
I was so excited to get this thing back on the road after it was in the garage for 7 months... :confused: FML

Looks exactly the same to me, except there's a sleeve frozen onto it. I expect you can see that same sleeve still attached normally in your car. Perhaps you could separate it with a long soak in penetrating oil and then trying to twist it free in a vise. Perhaps heating it with a torch.

That's the sleeve from the old shocks. It needs to be removed. As said, best way is to use a torch and heat it up.

thanks guys, i took some measurements and it appears you may be right, the inner shaft diameter and length appears to be the same as the one on the old trailing arm. So i am going heat it with a torch and see what i can do. Thanks for the confirmation, i didnt want to start hacking away until i had some fresh minds help out. Ill let ya know how it goes!!!

If you're careful, you can use a grinder and put a slit in the sleeve and split it apart a bit. Then with some heat and pliers just work it off. Take some time to clean up the stub and put some antiseize on them and inside your strut mounts. I've seen it before and hated running into that.

got it!!! couldnt twist it so i slowly cut into it with the trusty ol dremel, three wheels later i could pry it apart on the cut line and twist it off. I did apply liquid wrench in the cut as i was going so it could work its way in there. worked, well now to getting this damn thing on and the car off stands!!!!
thanks guys!:thumb::rocks:

ps thx for such quick replies guys!

Yes, replace all the bushings if you can. They made a massive difference.

These are the subframe and mustache bushings, this is the control arms, and this is for the sway bar. I can't find the trailing arm ones right now though, but Energy Suspension does make them, as I have them.

This is a lot of work to do, especially the subframe bushings, but it makes a huge difference as it stiffens up the car and puts more power to the ground.
