1G Headlight clearing...(not how to)

that is pretty cool. My 2nd Gen is starting to get a wierd haze in the right headlight so it looks kind of dumb. I think maybe its cause of moisture getting in there. If any one has had this happen let me know. I really want it fixed.

I did mine last night

I didnt do it exactly as the tech article says to though...
I did it like this:

1200 grit sandpaper only
buffed it using a buffing wheel and a drill at 2500rpm's (rubbing compound)
I then did it by hand with rubbing compound
polished by hand
waxed by hand

and I did it all with the headlights on the car!

results came out almost perfect. If you look hard you can see slight scratchs because I only used 1200 grit paper, but nothing noticable.

I just read the how to in the FAQ section, and the only thing I need to know is what kind of rubbing compound your supposed to use? Something like Mothers Metal Polish that you can use to also clear the headlights?

You should be able to use that, I just went to the local ACE and picked up any rubbing compound in the auto care section.

i have that milky looking glaze over my headlights, and i tried this, and it worked.... but its hardly noticeable

I see it work for 1gs and 95-96, just wondering if it will work for 97+ plastic headlights

95-96 headlights are made of plastic. It will work for 97-99, its just not too common for those to get as bad.

works pretty good as a plastic buffer (had one yellow and one crystal clear..looked really bad)...just apply with a rag that you can get some friction with...keeping it kinda humid to keep it rubbing and not clumping...after some time buffing the headlamp should be ready to wash off and be crystal clear and minty fresh

coat of protector after that and you good

Swimming pool filter powder also works, it's the diatomacious earth that most rubbing compounds and toothpastes are made of.

Forgive me if this might seem somewhat off the subject, but I dont see why these headlight manufacturers dont make aftermarkt headlights for the 1gs. No offense to the 2g tuners, but at least yall have some on the market. that is what forces us to have to resort to this in order to put some bling back into our rides. It burns my ass to see dozens of different types of projectors for hondas & acuras, and not one for a 1g Eclipse.

Hey is this done only on the outside of the lenses, or the insides of them also...Havent ever removed mine, can you even get into the insides

you do it on the outside, and yes, you can get to the inside, baking em in the oven, way too much wor, i did the same tihng untill i found this method

Alright.....So i understand you can dis-assemble a 95 headlight and clean the inside using the method in your faq....but in the post 2 above mine (your last one TurboBlue) you said that you did it this way (i assume you mean using the oven) also until you found another way. Did i read that right...or is there a way to clean the inside of the lense without the oven method? If so then how? Thanx for the help...im sure a lot of people are glad you took the time to let us all in on this, .

well actually, all the yellowy goodness is o the outside of the lense, so you dont need to take the light apart at all., its kinda a waste of time IMO

this method is exacly the same as a painter uses to removee "orange peel or sags" from a refinish, you can start as agressive as you like like 600 grit, wet always use wet, then move up to as much as 2000 grit, makes buffing alot easier, i use 3m finess it. they have different cuts, "sand in the waxes" use fine cut and a buffer, then finish or "glazing " compund at the end, removes all residue and actually cleans, also hass very very fine cut to provide max removal of the scratches. the buffer actually spins fast enough to get the compunds hot but i have seen it done by hand. toothpaste does work also, and it will clean your wifes diamond rings real well haha

K, i understand about the yellow. But mine is fogging. It's the classic driver side 2G headlight fog. Now that IS on the inside...right? So the only way to clean it will be to heat it up in the oven etc., correct? I just wanna make sure before i do more work then necessary, . Thanx for all the info guys.

if by "fogging" you mean water condensation on the inside, then yes, you might just be able to evaporate it, but you'd be better off re-sealing the light anways
