I bought a punishment racing downpipe for my 1g a while ago. I've had trouble bolting it up ever since i've recieved it. Now it seems that the o2 housing studs are like.. stripping the bolts.. I've double gaskets to get an appropiate seal but now I can even tighten it up. It's just 1 stud and I really dont want to take my o2 housing off. is there anyway i could get this bad boy to tighten up? Any tricks? Let me know, thnx.

yes i just took a look at it. o2 stud is stripped closest to the housing. drilling it out and replacing it with a nut and bolt would probably be the most effective but is there anyway i could just get away with using like 4 lock washers?

This thing has been giving me problems for QUITE some time. I'm just gonna man up and do a nut and bolt. drilling for 3 hours.. here i come.

should i heat it up too? i'd imagine that might help it along.

try a hellio coil.. i believe it's called.. they're small spring type looking things but they're made to replace stripped thred's,

Heli coils are good for replacing stripped threads yes, but if im correct they arent used on studs? Anyways, I bought a nice cobalt bit and im gonna drill away tommorow. should be all fixed up then. The welds on the downpipe arent very good though.. they get in the way of screwing in the pipe. not enough room to fit a nut. it's a hard piece to bolt up.

If you can, just weld a nut on the damaged o2 stud and unscrew the stud with it; a lot less hassle that way. My custom downpipe is now held by two long bolts! :thumb:

SERIOUSLY THIS THING IS RIDICULOUS..........

it's leaking again. i just do NOT understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, now i think i'm just gonna drill out the other stud. maybe the other one is stripped as well and i just couldnt tell....

Are you using an evo o2 housing I know they have a different angle than a stock 1g making the downpipe a little harder to bolt up because it hits on the tcase.. If it is realy that tight around the o2 threads just drill out the holes a little bit. Mine had to be done alot but its better than an exhaust leak! Also not sure if you have enough room to put 2 nuts on it then star loosening the top one and hopefully it will pull the stud out.
