So I just finished putting my car back together with many new mods, and now I am trying to get it tuned, but kind of need this data logger to work in order to do so. I just bought it from someone in the classifieds who said he never used it before he went to dsmlink. It's a Palm V and a custom cable from a place called West Coast DSM. The cable just has 3 clips on the end, which I placed on the upper left, 10 and 12 pins, then conneccted to the palm V serial to cradle. Does it matter which pin, 10 or 12, should connect back to the palm?? I've tried both Palm'n Stein and MMcd and neither of them even read any input at all. I also have already tried a null mudem adapter, wiping the palm and reloading the software, and checking, checking and rechecking all of the terminal connections. One of the soldered connections inside of the r232 end of the plug came loose and I resoldered it, so the only thing I can think of is I soldered it back together wrong. It looks right to me, but I've attached a picture, can someone please tell me if this looks right? Or any have another suggestion so that I can tune this car and get the boost up???? Thanks.
Ryan

To be honest I am not an electrician, and that diagram doesn't make complete sense to me. Do the resistors have to be attached further up on the wire than they are on my plug?? Other than that neverything seems to lead to the correct pins. Could someone else who knows what they are doing please lend me a second set of eyes and tell me if something is wrong with my cable??

I'd say to see what ebay has to offer. The cable I got off ebay has a factory diagnostic plug on it. I hate those ones with 3 individual females. The guy who made mine used to have quite a name for himself selling them, but I think he quit. The null-modem adapter is to hook-up to a laptop. I'd say to run a WTB ad, but I don't think you can, as a probationary member. Start a thread in the hangout asking if someone local has one, and check ebay every day for a good cable. If you find one, you'll have it in a few days. In the mean time, look into finding out what's wrong with yours. Search search search!

Stick with MMCd for now, it's most well-supported.

Ok, so I took apart the cable today to try and re-solder the 10K resistor further up, and I just happened to plug in my logger while I removed it and bam, it starts working, without the resistor!! So right now my plug looks exactly as it did before, only withouth the resistor connecting the #5 and 3 pins together. So my question is, is this some random fluke?? Also, I went and mde a few pulls today with the logger running and it appears to be fully functioning, but are the readouts accurate considering my cable works, but isn't wired properly??
