I have a question regarding the stock cams on my 90 GSX. Can anyone verify that these are any different, however minor, from any other model years? I finally have the right supporting mods to boost over 20psi and have actually gotten to 24psi with my EVOIII turbo...however, the car does not seem to be making any more power then it did at 20psi. In fact, it almost feels like it may be losing a little bit above 6k (I shift at 7k or a little before). Timing is good at about 17-21...there is some knock but very little about 6-8...but almost none above 6k. This is all on 93octane pump gas. I'd like to get it up to 27psi at the track on 116 octane race fuel. I was thinking that the stock cams are/might be holding the engine back somewhat. I thought I had read somewhere that the 1990 model year had the more restrictive cams...but not sure about that. Any insite would be much appreciated, thanks.

Well... I can't find any actual information on this, but at our last DSM meet here, we were sitting around discussing this, and we were told that yes, there are minor variations year to year, '90 being the worst, '93 being the best. (M/T cams of course)

So, take that as you will, just secondhand info I got from a guy with too much useless knowledge.

i have a 90 head on my car and didnt notice any difference when i swapped....maybe if i was making more power i could have been able to tell...but as i sit now, it doesnt make a diffference on mine...but yes the 90's are a different, shittier cam

Welp, to be honest, that is what I hoping to hear. Guess I need cams. Now the only question is, should I torture the car by upping the boost to 25, running race fuel and dumping the exhaust in hopes of reaching a 12 sec time slip. Uh... ;) Screw it...yes! Thanks fellas. I will save up for some 272/264 hks units.
