1990 5speed's cruise controll

ok i have a manual 5 speed 1990 mitsu. eclipse with cruise controll. it still works, but usually the light is green when i turn the dial thing. today it was red. What does this mean?

good question my 90 talon cruise on light on the same thingy is orange. I would like to know if it's suposed to be green also.

Anyone have an answer? Mine lights up orange also. It wont let me set a speed.
