So I just got my car back from the mechanic. I found out that the fuel pump had been installed wrong by the last owner and the power line was pinched by the pump-plate and had worn through slightly.

Now that it is repaired I've been out playing with my new pocketlogger and new boost gauge. I did a hard pull from 0 to 65 mph and discovered that I was pushing 17-18 psi of boost. On my last gauge I was reading 15 psi. Is it just a difference in gauges or am I likely running that much boost? If so, is it safe given my current mods?

I am thinking the extra fuel pressure I'm likely getting might explain the added psi but I can't be sure as the old boost gauge crapped out on me. Sometimes I get a little stutter at higher rpms and full throttle. I suspect that might be because the ECU is having to relearn my car (just got it back from repairs/socketing). The last pull I did I don't recall any stuttering. What do you guys/gals think?

IF you are running 18 psi with the stock turbo, I wouldn't do it considering you have no air/fuel controller and no way to determine your air/fuel ratio.

To test your gauge to see if it is indeed 18 psi, just put another one in. They take like 3 minutes to temporarily install, so this would be a good way to test it.

More fuel pressure will not give you more boost.

I'm running 16 psi on my T25 and would never go any higher than that. Every person that I know that has run 18+ psi on their T25 blew it. If you change out the gauge and it's still reading at 18 I'd say lower it. If you're looking to upgrade soon, then leave it where it's at and see what happens.

The gauge is brand new so I don't want to shell out another $60 for one unless I need to. I guess I could hook up to an air compressor and see if the gauges match at low psi.

I'm driving a 1G with a 14b turbo, not a 2G T25 :)

What does your pocket logger say? Are you able to maintain timing and keep knock down? The problem with running higher boost is doing it safely......if you have a logger you will see it. I didn't see bigger injectors in your list of mods.....if they are stock they may keep up for a while but will start to run out of steam as duty cycle limits are approached (not to mention shorter there life greatly)!

As far as your gage goes, most over the counter gages are only OK for calibration and I would expect to see some variation from gage to gage and brand to brand......play it safe and turn the boost down until you get the supporting mods to run higher boost. Bigger injectors and a way to add/remove fuel would help you a lot even with the stock turbo.

is your pump rewired?

I had a 92 awd with 190lph rewired, intake and 3 inch exhaust, the 14b lasted about 10k miles after teh boost Hit 17psi. i thew on a s16g and never had a problem. I sold the car and its in the same condition, and still turbo is Tite.

the condition of the turbo will also have an effect on the effects of the boost.

but as long as your logs are good, your good.

in cold weather the boost would creep to 18, 18.5 and hit cut.
so your running close id say.

I'm starting to think it might be the gauge actually. I turned my MBC down a quarter turn and didn't see any change at all in boost readings. I am getting high knock readings (32) at 5500 rpms. I think part of that is a nasty exhaust leak at my flex section that I haven't been able to repair yet (doing it sometime this week.) My timing is 11 deg, inj pw 13.59, factory 02 reads 0.8. Knock was steady at 27/28 between 4-5k rpms. As I am new to loggers I have no idea what that tells me (I still need to go join the pocketlogger forums.)

The knock counts are high......its means you are detonating. You will have to turn the boost down. Another indicator is that the computer is pulling timing back trying to combat the knock. You are actually losing performace by turning the boost up higher than your setup can handle.
