hi, i have a '91 eclipse gsx with the following engine mods:
Evo III big 16g
2g pistons on 1g rods
Greddy FMIC
Hard piping
Greddy BOV
K&N filter
Manual boost controller
3 inch turbo back exhaust apexi N1

i know i need a 190 fuel pump but what about injectors? will my stock 450's work? and are there any other supporting mods i need? i know i should get a logger and SAFC but im waiting to find out whats wrong with it until i spend anymore money on it.
the problem is i started it up for the first time and it has a loud ticking noise at idle and goes away when its revved. what do you think could be causing this? exhaust leak? lifters? internal engine damage? OMG i can upload a video of it running if that will help
thanks

450's will work but I'd keep the boost at stock levels. 650's are what you should get with the 16g, more than enough to max out the 16g. You need some type of fuel management. an SAFC will work ok with the 650's just be careful with the timing advance. A good idea would be to get a chip burned for injector compensation, it makes tuning much easier. If you have the cash, go for Dsmlink.

Also, if you plan on maxing out the evo3, think about getting a 255 pump and afpr, that 190 may not be enough. If you do get the 190, rewire it at the least.

I also did not see a clutch in your profile, your stock clutch won't last long once you turn up the boost on that.

As for the ticking, it could possibly be the lifters. My car does that once in a while and it can get quite loud. Just to be safe, do a compression test, and try running some seafoam or atf through the motor, it should smoke quite a bit and it will show you any exhaust leaks you have. Hope this helps!

okay, thanks! i'll go do a compression test and see whats comes up, i've been putting it off... well wish me luck! LOL

and i'll try some seafoam, im guessing i can get that at autozone?

you're right about the clutch, as far as i know its stock, along with the tranny which has 170,000 on it OMG

Yea autozone should have some there. In fact, I'm gonna do that this weekend, it never hurts to check ;)

Yea my entire drivetrain minus the clutch and flywheel has 153k on it, and still going strong. Gotta love these dsms :thumb:

yeah, i just did a compression test and came up with 70-85 compression range on all four... :(
and three of the plugs were soaked...

oh, and i can't buy seafoam in az :\

If the noise goes away after you rev it up, then it's definitely lifters, because your motor builds oil pressure and they stiffen up. If it was rod knock it would get louder as you rev. There's a thread on here somewhere on how to upgrade to 3rd gen lifters without pulling your cams.

yeah, the car runs fine, it doesn't build much boost but thats due to the super low compression im guessing.

the ticking does go away when its revved. :]
