So I made a boost controler, from a valve I bought at home depot. and I installed it. I also bypassed the boost control solenoid, just put a connector in line and left it out.
Well I turned the boost up to 15 psi (I also got a $15 dollar boost gage @ pepboys!) and then my friend made me an offer on a real boost controller, so I took off the $5 home depot special, but before I put on the new boost controller I reconected the vacume line to the BOV and took it around the block. Still hitting 15 psi. well that was easy... is it because I bypassed the boost control solenoid? Is this going to screw anything up in the long run? thanks.

Oh yeah, the mods are a hard intake pipe, and a 2.5 inch pipe from the turbo to a flowmaster.

You would think so wouldn't you,
but I hit about 12 in first, then it starts making a funny noise almost like hitting the rev limit
( I think my timing by be a bit off, not the belt mind you, but the base timing),
at about 5k rpm,
then in second, I go straight up to 15 psi.
It beats the hell out of me, I guess because I basically have a vacume line going straight from the outlet on the air canister to the wastegate, its getting up there but I dunno.

From the aircanister??? it needs to be a pressure source in order to open the wastegate...without a pressure source the wastegate won't open...are you reading boost from an aftermarket gauge??

yeah, I have an after market boost gage.
I guess maybe have read the vacume diagram wrong.
point is, I have an intake pipe, and exhaust, and no boost controler, I'm hitting 15 psi (maybe 16, my boost gage rests at -1 when the car is off) and I'm faster than a WRX. but if I am not opening the waste gate then I shouldn't have any boost right? or is it unlimited boost, untill I run out of turbo effeciency? forgive me, I'm relativly new to forced induction.

Im running 15 psi right now with no boost controller. all i did was take the restrictor off the boost solenoid. i do have a greddy types bov. isnt 15 psi usually what you get when the free mod is done

It's unlimited boost since the wategate needs pressure to open - BE CAREFUL, you can ruin your engine with too much boost - who am I to say, my hose come off the wastegate and I had it hit 20PSI for a second. DOOH!!

The place the hose should come from (going to the wastegate) is off the pressure side of the turbo - there is a port there - what is hooked to it now?

15psi is normal for a K&N and a catback with no boost restrictor. I don't know why you'd connect your boost gauge to the air canister. Connect it to the "P" on the throttle body like a normal person.

yes it is def. unlimited. last year when i bought my 99gsx from someone that had already moded it .. incorrectly i might add it was also running without a boost controler, S20g, stock inj. and stock pump. in 3rd i hit 26psi before i got fuel cut... didnt know the line was disconnected and thank goodness it cut .. would have probably blown the motor at 30psi. it wasnt until i hit cut the 2nd time that i looked down at greddy boost gauge and saw that i was in excess of 1.5 bars of boost. it scared the crap out of me. drove her slow until my HKS EVC 5 came and my walbro 225 pump was installed.

my friends stock 1g laser spooled 18psi strong and creeped up to 21 where fuel shut off would somtimes happen.. Tell his turbo blew up!

stock turbo isn't made for high boost..

yeah, I guess its a wastegate thing. still pretty sweet though, I guess im kinda pissed I spent the 8 bucks @ homedepot. And don't talk to me like I'm a dumbass, the boost gage is teed off of the "P" line running from the TB.
Quick question, how do I take the "restricter" out? I mean, wouldn't it be the same thing as just bypassing the waste gate solenoid?

I didn't want to start a new thread, But im having the same problem. I am running exactly 15psi with no boost controller, It started to run like this after i took off my Turbo XS boost controller(it was hitting 20psi w/ fuel cut), before boost controller it was running 10psi.
This doesn't bother driving or anything, but im just wondering if it may be like this because something is not right.
