Background: I purchased this car new in 99' Had to order it from the factory in Normal ,Illinois. Cars painted in Sundance Plum Pearl (P51) were not available from dealerships. The car was delivered to the dealer near me in Florida. I was always curious about the number of cars that were produced in this color. A couple of years later (2002), I found a search engine that was able to reach out to Mitsubishi Manufacturing of America. Their Operations Communications Specialist: Krystal Peasley , was able to supply the information based on the vin# of this car.
"Only six vehicles were produced for the 1999 model year: Turbo Spyder Convertible with Plum Pearl exterior and Black leather interior were produced at the Mitsubishi plant, Normal Illinois". "Rare" was her last comment in this e-mail.
I also purchased the factory bra, car cover and a second set of floor mats for the driver & passenger side. They remain un-used and in the unopened package. So I figured this car was going to be a keeper, I bought a set of Shearling Sheep seat covers for the front seats. Money well spent... the leather underneath is like new... no wear or cracks. In the Fl. heat they stay cool and in the cooler months very nice.
All that being said, the car was garage kept, a Sunday ride for the first 17yrs. the last 19yrs. I tool around town a little more... the odo. is at 84k.
