boring my cylinder walls

I plan on getting a 2.3 stroker kit and was wondering if I could just get standard size bore pistons instead of going .20 or .40 over ? I really dont want to take my block out and take it to the machine shop. My car has 96, xxx miles, so hopefully the cylinder walls are fine.
 
Being lazy about it isn't the best approach. Chances are it needs bored and honed, why would you risk it when you're spending so much money?
 
If I were you, I would take the block to the machine shop. They will tell you what condition it's in and if it will need to be bored over; I would definitely hone it. Buy the pistons of the appropriate size after you know what condition the block is in...

ok, so ill definetly take it to the machine shop. Should I just ask them if it needs boring ? And what is honing ?
 
Honing is what they do after boring to make the cylinder sharp and smooth. I would also suggest getting the block resurfaced especially if you plan on using a metal headgasket which I highly suggest you use. It usually around 20$ per cylinder to have it bored/honed and around $30-$60 to have it resurfaced or decked. :)
