Transmission Shipping [Merged 8-7] trans trannie gearbox ship
Aloha,
Ok, I found a transmission (several actually) and I am getting it for $300. The problem is I can't get a decent price for shipping. UPS-$550, un-named freight companies-$550, FED-EX ground-$206 Can anyone suggest a better option or a cheaper agency that I can try. The package is 125lbs going from 25271(WV) to 96826(HI) Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Wow, it only cost me $55 to ship mine via UPS to Sheperd. FL to Ohio? I got it weighed in the box, and sent it off. It was like 127 or something pounds total. (the tranny was dissassembled though)

Everything in Hawaii is more expensive, or so I've heard from those that've lived there.
I know there's a HI DSM board... I forget the name of it. Might wanna try searching on Google and asking the folks there.

Yeah thanks, I'm a member there. It's true everything is more expensive here but the disparity between 55-$200 is hard to understand.
Greyhound doesn't ship to Hawaii, so it looks like a freight company (see slow-boat) is going to be the cheapest option. Thanks for the info.

I used to live in honolulu and man did shipping always suck. I remember having to always having to pay at least 20 bucks for everything and being forced to use 2nd day air even for little things. Mainland is cold and I miss hawaii and thinking 60F was freezing. Lucky you live hawaii but your gonna spend more on shipping. good luck.
PS my thermometer reads 25 degrees right now so but happy

Tranny shipping tips?
Im sending my tranny to shep. I read from a post somewhere that walmart sells containers good for this? I ordered one of the team rip boxes, but it doesnt look like hes even got my email yet and I need my car together up and running by the end of the month and the box wont arrive in time. Once I get a good container or box, what should I put inside of it to keep the tranny from moving and provide some cushion?

A buttload of bubble wrap or some good styrofoam chunks will be fine. I got a box from walmart when I shipped mine and it's a dark GREY (almost black) box that has an orange LATCH on it. Then just bought some of that bubble wrap paper and wrapped it a couple times.
Then shipped'er off.
Goodluck!

Take some heavy cardboard and line the bottom. Put the transmission inside and then fill the remaining space with either cardboard or Styrofoam (not peanuts) after that, just zip tie the lid closed and take it to a ups or fed ex shipper. An AWD transmission will weigh in at about 145 lbs.
That is off his site. Try that. I will be doing the same in next few days.

That would cost a alot to overnight a tranny. Plus like it has already been said, when I talked to him on Thursday he said he will be out of town for abotu 2 weeks. When he gets back he will finish the work that comes in.

Rule #1 for dealing with TRE:
CALL THEM!
They rarely check emails. The box they send is PERFECT for the application.

Try Lowes, or Home Depot. They both carry that item.
