I just got my turbo in from fP. it is a big 16g. i took it to the shop that is doing the work on my car. The owner there downs everybody's **** other than greedy. he looked at the turbo and started downing it about it being ported on the turbo housing and not on the inlet. does this really efect it. i dont see anything on fp's site about porting inlet. i think he is full of ****. then he said they could of made the porting smoother. i think that he is just mad about me going over his head and getting my own turbo and not buying his $2200 18g greedy. i told him that no greedy is in the top ten dsm. he didnt beleive me, but i have proof now. my question is should i be concerned about the porting on the inlet and the spot that isnt smooth on the turbine housing porting.

Only port the Turbine housing. Also Brent (Osofast) runs a Greddy or at least he did.

I just got a used (but fairly new) turbo a stock 14b turbo with a 5 degree clipped exhaust turbine. I want to port it out. Ive done alot of porting on heads before, so Im no stranger to porting. But Im wondering what kind of preperation do I have to do. Do I need to take the turbo apart? Or can I just use a blow gun after Im done and get all the stuff out? I dont want to go crazy porting it out, but Id like to port it out a bit before I put it on. Im sure someone has done this themselves, so help me out please. Thanks.

Cool. How do I open up he wastegate manually?, I pulled on the rod but it wont budge, same as my stock one...

I can port out the 02 a bit too huh? how far can you go with a stock one?

Just unhook the actuator(sp?) arm on the waste gate (take out the pin), then you should be able to open it easily.

You basiclly grind the inlets and outlets of the turbo bigger. Yes you can do it yourself with the right tools.

The vfaq has a great write up on porting turbos. All you need is a nice air compressor, some carbide burs, and a die grinder. A vice would help too ...

Wheres a good place online to send my turbo to be clipped andd ported , I have a big16g. Somewere cheap and reliable. sorry if thi is in the wrogn forum

I'm sure one of this site's sponsors would be happy to do it...

[/cheap plug] :p

If I was going to porto my turbine housing out, do I NEED to take the housing off? or can i just be VERY careful not to touch the blade? also, does neone have pics of their port jobs so i can see about how far in to port, i was going to go to just flush w/ the 7cm opening and then match to my O2 housing...is that ok..i will be using carbides and stones...i tred to use just a stone on my old 14b housing...didnt work LOL

There a link to my thread on my turbine housing porting. I ported the inlet to 7cm2 and ported the wastegate hole (behind the flapper) and also enlargen the wastegate blast zone quite a bit as you can see. I also got done porting my o2 housing which matches up perfectly to my beefy turbine housing porting job. Hope that helps! Oh yeah, definately take the housing apart from the turbo, makes life 10X easier!

when i take it apart, do i need to replace nething? i took apart my 14b, but didnt really care cause it was just to learn about it i was gonna use that housing for practice...but anyway i just take the clamp off and the shaft i dont need to replace any seals when i remove the shaft right? the turbo is brand new, only 200 miles on it

You should be fine. I pulled my 14b with 105K miles on it apart to port it, put it back together and it's working better than ever.

OK, I realized once i was taking the clamp off that I didnt need to take the wheel off...i just didnt when i took the 14b apart...done porting now...i think it looks damn good...I was able to port out the flapper hole a little, was this a good thing to do? I also made sure i opened the flapper hole out on both sides, and ported the sh*t outa the main opening

I took it off, it makes it easier to clean it. *shrugs*

Don't take any chances, just remove the housing and port it. Its not that difficult to take a turbo apart. If you are a little nervous then just take some white paint and make small reference lines on the center section and both housings.

Im looking at buying a rebuilt 14b Turbo and he says it is also Ported and Polished on the exhaust side....

Do i need to do anything to my exhaust manifold inorder to bolt this in or can i just slip her right on ???

im really low on money after replacing my trans/brakes/wheel bearings/disks/rotors/tires/clutch and a bunch of other BS... so i dont want to have to spend MORE money to port my exhaust manifold out so that this turbo will work right here is the item description....
