i really would like to get a spring kit for my car...but i am haveing trouble finding anyone that will mess with it in my town...anyone have any ideas of who would put them on for me?

i really do not want to attempt putting them on myself in fear that i might screw somthing up or kill myself :(

if i cant find anyone to do it i will have to deal with wheel gap:cry:

thanks

I got my springs and shocks a while ago.... I was going to put em on myself.... but Once I got everything outa the box.. my mom freaked out, casue she thought I would install it wrong, or whatever...
So I had to take it to the near by tire shop.. They did it all.. took about 5 hours.

Well is it too difficult to do?
i have a 95 gsx..and am wanting to get the eibach pro kit springs...

topple how much did it run you to have them put on?

thanks

I think it was 100 bucks..... no camber kit (one of these days) :p If you do it yourself, you need a spring compresser.... maybe you should just have the tire place do it if your unsure, and don't want to buy extra tools.

If you are unsure of what you are doing, read every VFAQ you can find. www.plymouthlaser.com has a good one, also read the stuff at www.vfaq.com under suspension. Check Chilton's or Haynes, i think they have how to install them as well, not sure though since its been a while since i cracked one of them. (Not cracking the Haynes is probably part of the reason it took me 4 days to get my suspension on rightOMG, or maybe its just that Koni makes you cut stuff up on the front:thumbdown, and that i did the rears on about 4 hours of sleep right after my last class).

I have heard, where i dont remember, but it does warrant some research, that the Prokits on the 2Gs will sag HORRIBLY. Like i said, i have absolutely no first-hand experience with this given that i have a 1G.

Are you doing just springs? If so, it might be a better idea to wait until you have a set of dampers to go with it. New springs on old dampers is a recipe for excessive wear. If you're just wanting to go lower to look good, then do just springs. Otherwise, the dampers will actually be more beneficial in terms of handling.

Either way, have fun!

hey. i dont know too much about suspension adjsuting so i got some questions. can any of you guys tell me if it is possible to shim the stock tie rods on a lowered eclipse to get correct camber or would you have to buy adjustable tie rods? and what is a good drop for an eclipse on 16 or 17'' rims? i was thinkin maybe a 2'' drop cuz i dont like the really low look. also, can you put shorter springs on to the stock shocks to drop your car or do you have to buy a full shock upgrade?

Do it yourself. It takes three bolts to take off one of the the rear struts. 14 on the top and one 17 on the bottom (plus five wheel lugs.) and four for the fronts. 3 14's on top 1 17 on bottom and one 14 for sway bar. You might need two 14mm wrenchs though to hold the other side of the sway bar bolt from spinning when loosening the outside one. I did a job without a spring compressor once on a friends car too. very carefully though. Its very very easy. Oh yeah I have the stock kybs and it's fine. It would be a smoother ride with upgraded shocks though.

2 inches is pretty low. If you don't want it tooooo low, go with 1.2 or 1.5 drop, I have 1.2 on all 4, and looks fine, I can't imagine how much harder it would be to drive with a 2 inch drop... (damn sidewalk ramps)

yea i thought 2 inches was higher than what it actually was but then i found out how low it really is so i already thinking aobut getting a 1.2'' drop . i made a thread about choosing shocks . take a look. can you tell me if you have to buy adjsutable tie rods when u lower ur car or can you shim the stock ones on an eclipse?

Me and a friend did my spring/shock install and it took about 10 hours counting the time we ate *cough*smoked weed*cough* and screwed around being lazy. only problem we really had was getting the damn nuts off the tops. you dont really need a spring compressor. the front ones pop off pretty good when the bolt comes off but we just put a rug in front of it to catch the shit we needed for the new shock/strut if you have any questions just ask, also you will need a camber kit, with my sportlines my camber was off 4 degrees in the back and 1 degree off in the front.even if you cant see it it doesnt meen its not there. i did try the homeade one for the rear and it barely helped.

I would never recommend doing a spring or strut install without a compressor. Yes, it can be done. Is it smart? No. The spring, assuming it isn't completely ruined, is under quite a bit of compression to begin with considering that springrates measure the pounds required to compress the spring 1". On a good set of springs there is enough force to make a darn good imprint on you at the very least. Can it be done? Sure. How safe you want to be is up to you.

My Opinion , honestly go for it because i was scared i was gonna mess something up but i took the chances , so now i know if something is wrong with my suspension i dont have to rely to pay mechanics to fix it. You just told us that it took a mecahnic to do it in 5 hours thats hard to believe. Because a first time like me It took me about 20 min to do the rear, and a hour and half to do the front... with some craftsman tools, a hydrolic jack, and two 2 by 4s .....

This goes to AIR , if you cant take the bolt off on the top , grab a hammer and hit the upper control arm right by the bolt , not on the bolt but by it.... hit it a couple times really hard and it will come off , try to use wd-40 spray . Just wanted to let u know if u have any problems next time.

I agree. I just finished doing my about a week ago and it was much easier than I thought it would be, provided you have the right tools. I used a spring compressor on mine but then again I found one for $10 online so I figured why not. I also used all my air tools so that made it quite a bit easier. But all you really need is 14 and 17 mm wrenches. A very easy project to do and a good one to start to get into working on cars.

I changed springs and struts on my mazda mx-6 for the first time and that was easier than on the eclipse.

once you figure out how to do it - READ THE ABOVE GUIDES- it is not that hard at all, just be carefull with the endbar sway link. make sure you spray wd40 on the ends of the bolts before you take it off. One of my friends that worked at a Mitsubishi car center said that it was almost a guarentee that they would need new ones after changing it and he wrote it on the bill right away - Mine were fine, I had no problems - just make sure to used wd40 first and then loosen the allen wrench and bolt.

As for drop, my car is dropped 2 " and I have no problems. Don't scrape on any speedbump, only on my drive way which is a ditch on the way in (still have to fill it in)
It looks real good dropped 2"

go for what you like, but I recommend if you are going to drop it use both springs and new shocks - just using lowering springs without lowered shocks is not a good idea

It would make the job much easier with air tools. My car is dropped about 2 inches and i scrape on almost everything and i drive it like a nun when it comes to bumps. The problem is that the resonator on my 3 inch exhaust is less than 2 inches from the ground making clearance a huge issue.

Quick question regarding installation.

Do you need a spring compressor if you are replacing with coilovers (DSS) and AGX/Koni dampers.

I can see needing one to replace springs only, but if you are replacing the whole damn assembly can you just assemble it and install it?
